Forget the convertible for now - get the new V6 Exige to be street legal in the US!!! That would open up a lot of new buyers.

2006 Elise, Aspen White, red interior, LSS, Touring, S111 Katana SC, Reverie CF scoops
2006 Lamborghini Gallardo, Rosso Leto / Ivory - another rare color combo sheesh, I'm drooling over my own car.
2006 red Mustang GT convertible, stock - wife's fun car
2009 Toyota Rav4 - winter car, also for carrying anything larger than a 2-slot toaster

I would love an Exige S, but I'm sure I wouldn't buy it new.

Hmm...

Yes the V6 Exige...we're all sad that it's not street legal in the US.
What a shame

The color BTW looks a lot different in bright sunlight. My sone calls it Black Cherry which is, I think, more accurate.

Garage
Get another exemption like the Elise, Esprit etc.

RE: V6 Exige for USA

Assuming they know this little workaround that they've been pulling for years:
(Elise exemption from US safety standards)

I wonder if this opens the door for Honda powered Lotus? Which I don't believe has been done officially.

Or maybe the next-gen Esprit will have some common parts from the next-gen NSX, which would be kinda cool. (you know except for cannibalizing each other's sales).

So is the inability to federalize the V6 Exige mainly due to airbags?

no idea who started that rumor....

"I really started paying attention to cars was when they came out with the Nissan Z, the first body. Then I seen the Cherokees, the old square ones, and I was like, “Wow, that’s cool.” Then I seen the Isuzu jeeps and I seen the Wranglers."

Feds Could Pull Tesla Roadster’s Advanced Airbag Waiver:
NHTSA tentatively concludes that the expense of advanced air bag technology is not now sufficient, in and of itself, to justify the grant of a petition for a hardship exemption from the advanced air bag requirements.

I'm not sure I'd invest in the new Exige, but I think the natural progression would be to build a convertible Evora. It's time....it's been 4 years y'all.

They'd definitely have to do some price adjusting though. Lower the price of the current coupe and go from there.
