I'm confused as to why it has been difficult to federalize the Exige S. The engine should be able to piggyback on Toyota's efforts. The chassis was previously federalized, so what is the problem?

I believe it has to do with bumper, air bag, and side impact exemptions. They would have to re-engineer probably too much and the expense would not justify the number of sales. Basically a Bean counter is making the decision based on finances.

I think I saw the V6 exige in the movie REDS2, looked great and I too would consider upgrading.

Not just bumper or lackthereof but also height of the bumper due to new pedestrian protection regulations.

Is the new Elise concept still in the works for 2015?

I'd actually like to see them keep the current platform, except drop a K24 in it a la the Ariel Atom.

The Elise concept was part of the Bahar 5 car plan. the 5 car plan has been officially canned and flushed so no 2015 Elise. The article did mention doing something with the Elise. Probably some variant of the current european version. (If it even comes to the US. The elise could become a Non-federal only car.

That may be right, but I'm not sure I would necessarily interpret it that way. To say that there will not be five new cars is not the same as saying there will be no new cars.
