2006 used Elise w/o warranty - low $30K possible?

Long time reader, first time poster.

I'm looking into a used Elise (preferably 2006MY) by the start of 2008, preferably WITHOUT warranty. The plan is to get the ForcedFed 340 package so mileage and drivetrain condition isn't too big of a concern, mostly just looking at a car with good interior and exterior condition.

Is it reasonable to expect the 2006MY prices drop down to low $30Ks or even high $20Ks by next year, on a car with expired manufacturer warranty?

Thanks in advance.

I don't think that resale is going to go that low for a two year old car, also the warrantee lasts for three years so it wouldn't expire until 2009.

Your best bet for lowest price w/o warranty would be the 2005. Their warranties will be ending in 8/07. Also, Lotus has cut back production so depreciation has stablized.

I just sold my to a dealer on Saturday and they're planning on letting it go for $36.5 but it's in mint condition: http://www.elisetalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40936

Even if you could buy a car for $30K aren't there a few FF340 cars for sale that are cheaper than what you will end up having into yours?

I've noticed the prices of 2005 Elises actually going up.

(They were going for low, low 30s.. now many sellers are firm around mid 30s for a low mileage used `05.)

I don't think the `06s will drop to low 30s until 2009 when warrantees start expiring.

I wouldn't sell my low mileage, mint condition `05 for less than $35k.

Hmmm, bought an 06 SS/tour/lifestyle for 36,000 from a dealer with 5k on it. If the values here are true I will be quite pleased.

Hey, it was a $1200 option new. I could have had a Chrome Orange for 36,500. Everyone who sees it in person loves it.

I saw an Elise for high 20s a while back. It had 36k+ miles on it, so the warranty was gone. I'm not sure what year it was, but it was not in very good shape. The clams were going to need some work, and one the rims had some deep scrapes. It was arctic silver. The interior was fine.

I was just kidding. I'm actually a fan of the less common colors.

The chromo orange one sold almost as quick as mine did.

There was a purple 05 for 28,500 that sold on ebay. Clear title but bad pictures and some weird mods on it. ~2X,xxx miles.

As long as the clam damage can be repaired at reasonable cost, that is something I would still be interested in. I'm planning to do custom fiberglass work on the front and rear clams anyway, so provided that the cost of repairing the clams is minimized by the custom bodywork already planned, I'm hoping it shouldn't affect my budget much.

Bodywork plans are to remove the front turn signals and fill them in, build in LED turn signals into the existing headlights, and install the ReVerie rear arches and blend them into the rear clam. Basically an Elise lookalike version of the Exige GT3.

So it sounds like for a high mileage 2006 Elise in a tasteful color with some minor exterior damage (not totaled), I can expect to get one for high $20Ks or low $30Ks.

Kind of Lotus season now. Probably going to be hard, especially in the Northeast.

Don't think you'll get any 06 unless it's salvage in the 20's, probably not even in the low 30's unless it has 50,000 miles. Realistic 06 prices are mid to high 30's for low mileage well optioned examples. I think you'll have a lot better luck finding an 05.

Im in the same market. Although, my plan to purchase is most likely spring of next year. I would love to see the market reach the high 20s w/ low mileage around that time.

wow, I guess I got lucky.... Last month I won an '06 with 8500 miles, hardtop, touring pkg and starshield for $32k on ebay. It's Canyon Red with black interior. Had one "winglet" scraped on the botom of the nose, but I plan on covering those with the Lotus bump guards anyway, so it wasn't really a big deal.

I guess deals such as this are rare, but they are out there...
