2008 Exige rumors?

Hi,
Searched google and didn't really find anything, so making a thread here.
Anyone have rumors, knowledge about what's happening with the Exige in 2008 for the US? Street legal version and Cups?
Cheers,
Skottoman

I asked a similar question a few days ago. Mostly speculation but I think the Lotus dealers have been quiet.

Wow close timing... I just saw that. Speculation is all we have at the moment. Hope someone with some 'inside' info could start spilling some beans.

Maybe we could get Abe to spill the beans. Considering he's not a dealer anymore.

I'm worried about Lotus - I just hope there is a 2008. I wouldn't expect any cars until 2008.

I think Lotus is fine. Exige S sales are pretty strong. Yes, there are cars at dealerships but they've been moving. I guess power sells. Also, the used Elise market is pretty good too. Resale values are actually pretty good.

So, I guess it's just the new Elise market that many not be moving as fast - but in all honestly, I haven't been paying much attention to new Elise sales.

Which goes back to the original question. What will Lotus do for 2008? Bump horsepower on the Exige S and Elise?

If lotus wants to make money.. DROP the toyota Engine.. drop it, strike up a new deal and plop a better engine in there, something that can make 250HP stock.. then TURBOcharge it.. give the elise 290HP and the Exige S 340HP..

make these cars the track monsters that they are.. then price the elise at 60k and the Exige S at 75k..

Any sugguestions on suppliers willing to provide engines that will be compatible with the Exige/Elise, in the annual production numbers that Lotus can reasonably make, for a price that can still yield a profit to Lotus?

I've got the 340 hp version available to you for $60K, and mine has much better parts on it than Lotus would put on.

If they do that, most of us will pay to have an engine swap done instead of buying new at $70k+.

ok then, keep the pricepoint.. make the elise 250hp and exige S 290HP..

either way the cars need more power for the american market.. most americans see LOTUS and think this: ooo it's a super fast exotic.. when they see that it is in reality a 5+ second car to 60 they just get turned off..

It needs more grunt here.. that's all.. just make the Elise a turbo, toss it in there like they did with the turbo esprit in the 80's.. turn it into a true beast ala forcefed 275 kit..

I agree totally. I don't think they need another engine -just turbo or supercharge it. I think the only engineering challenge is: can you make a Cup 240 and 255 pass DOT emissions. If so, then it's all marketing gaming games.

And, Lotus' boss said faster variants are coming so, will it be 2008? (Hint, Hint Lotus if it's going to be in 2009, then I'm not interested because I'll be looking at the 2+2 Eagle -which fits my needs better than the Elise/Exige.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand Hethel is at a snail's pace because demand is so bad and there were just as many 06 Exiges sold as Exige Ss - maybe even more 06s.

Believe me - I hate reporting this. I love Lotus and I want to buy more cars. I just haven't been hearing much positive lately.

If you hear something else - let me know.

Stormy,

If they aren't selling that well then they need to look at the market and act accordingly..

I believe on some level they just have to agree that 50k for the US is just TOO MUCH MONEY for a car with a 190HP engine.. and it's turning people off to it..

The car need FAR more power.. it needs a bigger engine, 290HP would do it..

This is america, land of the horsepower.. you want to charge 50k, better start realizing that..

I can see how they may want to roll out more horsepower slowly. They obviously are doing that with the Cup cars. Just need it for the street legal cars. California is a big market, and for us who don't wanna mess with CARB stuff, factory power is the way to go. Would just like more of it pleez.
Cheers,
Skottoman

I can agree with this, if the car looks fast it should be, for the price of an Elise / Exige it should have some more ponies.

Remember the old kit cars based on a VW chassis. Looked great, but no go.

More power is great but a 13.5 1/4 mile for a $45,000 Elise and 12.6 for a $60,000 S is not too shabby for a car that WAS NOT DESIGNED TO DO QUARTER MILES.
