Note that Lotus rolled the sport gear box and sport package into this. So it looks like the "S" is a $6k premium. Not a huge jump.

Can you elaborate on what Suede Tx means?

I assume it refers to interiors upholstry, but it seems you can get it with and without the Premium Pack

No arguement with the too expensive statement, but if the Evora S was had as a 2+0 and one minimized the amount of options the perceived performance for value will be much much better than the non S Evora.

I'll add that having driven the Evora for a week, its performance even without the S is stellar and it is a much more usable car than an Elise or Exige.

Whether or not one feels it is worth the money compared to a Corvette or Porsche depends on what one is looking for in a sports cars.

If you think the Evora is getting expensive, then wait 'til the new models come out.

I fear that the Evora will be the last Lotus I'll (barely) be able to afford as a new car.

This material is commonly called Alcantera and is on the Performance Pack Elise of 2010. It is an interior covering.

Ah yes, Alcantara. A very nice covering and has a suede like look and feel. It looks good on the ELise. It would look really nice in the Evora as well.

I'll have to keep it in mind if I ever get around to ordering one.

The Lotus Evora with a six-speed manual transmission available in two versions, one with a little more aggressive than other transmissions. New Evora SC has 2,976 lbs weight and powered up the 3.5-liter V6 engine into 350hp while on supercharger and 0 to 60 mph should come down to under five seconds.

Pricing but what are the specs?

If we presume it is around 340hp and 3200 lbs, I think that's fair. Considering the initial Evora was easily optioned out to $80k...

just checked: 345hp and 3168 lbs. Not far off

LOaded base Evora's that were 84K are now 76K which is still steep. $70K loaded would have been my target price. Evora S loaded should be no more than $80K in my book, sorry. Guess Lotus just doesn't learn that the only thing they did wrong with the Evora was price it out of its market! I'm sure there are many Evora test drivers that went the Cayman route for less.

345hp, 3245lbs, fiberglass body, 0-60 in 4.7, 18,25 mpg, introducing the 1997 Corvette. All jokes aside the Evora looks good.

Not to worry, the S's will be sitting on the lot till the original $70,000 is achieved. The S version, on paper, has barely any performance improvement. If I were Lotus, I wouldn't even be charging for it. Just make all Evora's S versions and admit to making a mistake in the first place. Just my 2 cents.

I have to go against the grain and disagree about the pricing being off. This Evora is competitive with a 911 Carrera. It has similar, if not superior performance, has 2+2 seating, distinct, exotic appearance, and all the expected convenience options available.

It is priced at $80k. A 911 Carrera is only a bit lower at $78k. Option out the two and the Porsche is probably more expensive. I think it's in the right range. A tad overpriced? Perhaps, but I think it's justified being such a rare vehicle. I know which I'd pick.

Let's list the competitive advantages of a 911 Carrera to the Evora...

- Porsche reputation
- Porsche motor, not Toyota motor
- nicer interior quality and ergonomics
- Porsche dealership network

Now for the Evora

- Performance. I am confident it will perform better but we'll have to wait and see to be sure. Certainly on the handling front it will be a wash.
345hp can't put it far behind on acceleration if at all.
- Rarity ... you know you won't see another one. Looks better IMO, too. The only other cars in that price area that can be as distinct and exotic are the soon to be defunct Exige and Viper.

It will be fun to mod with that blown motor too.

Anyway, the car justifies its price to me.

Ok, time for me to chime in. As a multiple Porsche owner and active racer in the market for a new weekend toy, I am looking at the Lotus Evora S. I agree with Bavarian Motorist that the Evora S is competitive against the 911. A few things to build on his post...

Not that great right now. I'm fed up with their attitude. They are as bad as Ferrari now. "Our cars are perfect they don't break." "Its your fault the transmission failed during the pre-delivery inspection" "We designed the cupholders specifically so the $3000 nav system would catch all the spills"

Can you say rear main seals. How about failed piston sleeves in the Boxsters, bad syncros in the transmissions, fuel pump problems, I can go on and on. Quality is not what it used to be.

Ok, Porsche wins here, but I have to say my 997 rattles like a 92 Ford Taurus.

The Porsche dealers are ok, but to be honest, the service front end is not as good as Lexus. No experience with Lotus, but there are a bunch of Lotus dealers around NYC.

My 2cents.

I know it's already the beginning of February, but any idea when Lotus will finally set the price on the 2011 Evora S? My dealer ordered one for me 2 1/2 months ago and I still don't know what I'll be paying.

05 Elise - laser blue
11 Evora S - canyon red
03 Boxster S- seal grey
07 911 S - artic silver

I do not compare, nor does anyone else (techs, magazines etc) compare an Evora or Evora S with a 911. Its direct competition is the Cayman and the Cayman s. Using that comparison, it is overpriced. You can't justify the comparo with the wrong vehicle.
I stand by an "S" loaded for 80K, they'll sell a bunch of them. Many folks just like myself were very interested when the Evora came out as it could have been a natural progression and replacement for a 5+yr old car. But, that price was a huge turnoff. Now they want to sell year old Evoras launch models for 70K?? It is a year old, it has already depreciated more than that. If Lotus is going to enter the UNREALISTIC zone with future pricing, SEEYA!!! I have learned after 49yrs that if I think that way, so do a million others!
If I could have bought a loaded base Evora for 70K out the door last year, it would have been logical to trade in for the Elise before something breaks esp for a 25K tradein(high end dream I know but LRG and Red is very resaleable). That 45K transaction price was quite reasonable. Lotus is experiencing a reality check at present. They shot high in a bad econony and sales fell flat. Prove me wrong, but I expect a lot of Evora S's on the lots for a year with this price. I hope I'm wrong because I want Lotus to succeed!!!

Again 70K for a loaded Base model and 80K for a loaded "S" model!! Those are realistic numbers. They need to get cars on the road to build brand recognition before an upmarket move will succeed!!!
