Lotus Exige R-GT

Lotus Exige R-GT looks Group B fantastic for the modern era

Lotus has continually stated that it has big plans for the future. One of those being a return to the rallying world, and it will do just that with the all-new Lotus Exige R-GT. Sitting on the Frankfurt floor, the R-GT evokes visions of classic rally cars while also providing a showcase of Lotus' current and future styling.

The car will compete in the FIA R-GT class, and it tips the scales at 2,646 pounds. Some of that weight comes in the form of class-mandated underside and side protection for driver and passenger, as well as the steel rollcage.

The Exige R-GT is powered by a 3.5-liter supercharged V6 engine, which produces 302 horsepower. That energy is routed to the wheels through a six-speed sequential transmission. The engine is the same as the one found in the standard Exige, however 34-millimeter air restrictors have been put in place to control the power, as is required by the FIA rulebook for R-GT racing.

Lotus will first offer the Exige R-GT to motorsports customers rather than dive into rallying with its own factory team. Either way, we're happy to see the Lotus name once again applied to a rally race car. Feel free to read the complete press release after the break.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Looks like fun!!!! Sorry if this is a repost.

So I guess this thing is for real then? Or are we just not going to be seeing this Exige in America?

Seems like a racing version only, not for the public

If your refering to me, I meant the "supercharged V6 found in the standard Exige". Obviously no Exige has ever come with a V6, so to reference the "standard" means they are definently building a V6 model? But more importantly will America be blessed with this.

All signs are pointing to 'NO' unfortunately. Not a street legal V6 Exige anyway.

It's the 2012 exige that has this body and v6 engine... longer wheel base too. No idea on US arrival. There's a thread somewhere about it... that i posted in.

2006 Aspen White Elise. LSS, LSD, Traction control, LS Toe Link Brace, LS Ohlins DA, Rota 15/16's, BOE surge tanks and Sector 111 Gpan2, Red leather, JL speakers all around with Acapulco MP54, CF dash top, gas shock opening rear deck, multi-vex mirros and replaced rear-view mirror with kit off this forum.

Am I the only one who seems to think of the Exige as a poor choice for a rally car? It sits really low, has fragile body work that's expensive to replace, isn't all wheel drive, and generally seems like a fragile car for running over terrain the way rally cars do. Wouldn't something with a 50/50 weight balance and all wheel drive be a better choice? How much does the front bumper on a Focus cost vs an Exige clam? I cringe just thinking about my Elise running on a rough dirt road, let alone some of the horrible roads rally cars face.

Lotus has said that this car is for Tarmac rallying only.

Shouldn't be an issue, our own Rachel came in 7th a few years ago at the "La Carrera Panamericana" in her Elise
