1967 Europa 46/0384 - S1a

Found the 384 in Colorado. The car has been parked outside since 1992. It is complete, very original and a number matching car. Now, it is my garage and needs complete restoration. My son and I have started the process. The chassis is rusted in spots and needs to come out. Engine does not turn. Number 2 piston has green antifreeze on top. Antifreeze came out the oil pan when I drained the oil. Head looks good on top with the valve cover off. Will take the head off and see what is going on with the pistons.

Great find!

Are you near Denver?

Would love to come look at your score.

You may want to read bob herzog's book Europa euphoria to get a preview of what you are up against.

Apexes are a lot like relationships. So tough to get right, so easy to see where they went wrong.

The secret to a long life is ------- not dying.

Congrats and kudos to you for undertaking bringing this classic back to life!

Can you post up a picture of your other Europa? I see the nose of it in one of your pix.

You obviously already know your Europas. You know getting that frame out of an S1 is probably going to be the toughest part of your project.

Doug,
You are welcome to visit the 384 in Fort Collins. The work on the car has started. Power washed all the dirt off the car and engine bay. Carb is off and will take the head off the engine tomorrow.

The dark green Europa is a 1970 S2 with Renault engine as well. It is my friend's car. I had a white S1b in early 80s for several years.

We are having our national Lotus Owners Gathering in Colorado Springs in August. As head of the national, I always enjoy seeing someone bring an old Lotus back to life. Hope you make it to the Gathering.

I love the S1! Please keep us updated on the restoration. I'd put in a TC engine in it and make it a type 47 replica if I were you.

Update on S1a

I will update on our progress from time to time. We removed the head today and found no. 2 liner is cracked with green antifreeze on top and antifreeze came out of the oil pan as well. The head looks ok. The engine will need a set of new liners. We hope the pistons can be saved. Tom

Yes, we are planning to attend the event with our lagoon blue 1977 Lotus Esprit S1 if not the Europa.
