1978 eclat gearbox mount

Hi LT
Just wondering if anyone has replaced the big rectangular gearbox mounting on a éclat 522, with engine and box still in situ .The mounting was in a real bad way I managed to get it out by jacking the gearbox up but I don't have enough height to put the new mounting back in, I've now removed the prop shaft and exhaust the next step is to remove the engine mounts and try and move engine and box forward just asking in case there's an easier way lol

First, welcome and HUGE kudos to you for taking on the task/responsibility of bringing an older Lotus back to life.

That said, while this board does have a handful of folks who have some knowledge of the more vintage Lotus, overwhelmingly the knowledge and experience here is with the more modern cars, with a fair knoweldge base in Esprits.

You'll get better response from vintage Lotus forums.

Where are you located? There is a guy local to me who has restored the same vintage Eclat as you have, and I might be able to put you two in touch.

On this Forum, Esprit2 (Tim) has a lot of experience with your model.

But probably the best place to post your question is on the Lotus4seaters Yahoo mail-list, https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/lotus4seaters/info
