Scottsdale Lotus service experiences

Has anyone had Scottsdale Lotus perform service work on their Exige/Elise? I need to take my car in for an oil change, but am apprehensive since the techs are most likely novices.

I know nothing about Scottsdale lotus, but if I can change my own oil without a hitch, I can tell you that a highly trained Lotus specialist isn't necessary. The most critical part of the oil change is knowing how to safely lift the car.

The oil change 'service' calls for a number of other checks. It would help to have a seasoned tech look the car over rather than a novice who has never seen the underside of an Exige.

On another note, it's crazy that Lotus suggests 2.8 hours for an oil change service. That's basically $400 just in labor!

Just guessing, but if the Exige is supposed to have an oil change at only 2.8 hours I'll bet that is to drain out any micro-particles of metal that might be shed in the very early life of the engine. I understand that as pistons seat themselves in cylinders and other parts mesh with their mating surfaces early on, there tends to be some natural accumulation of these particles.

I highly recommend learning how to do your own oil changes for two reasons: First, most of the considerable expense for this procedure is for the time required to remove the lower panel, and anyone who can operate a simple wrench can do it. Secondly, it allows you to become familiar with your car, as you to personally inspect the underside. Most unnatural wear and tear can be picked up by even the untrained eye if you simply go slow and observe thoroughly. That said, having regular tech inspections (especially on a new car) by a Lotus tech is a good idea for several reasons...

He means charge 2.8 hours of labor, not 2.8 hours of engine run.

I had them do some warranty work on mine a few years back but I thought they closed the Scottsdale dealership?

I see they are at a different address now, is this the same dealer with a new location?

If it's the same people I can recommend the service dept, the manager there was great but you will pay much more than a DIY job....and it's not that hard to check things out for yourself. Lots of resources here and people willing to answer any questions or help out.

If you're not living on the edge you're taking up too much space!

No, it's a different owner. The Scottsdale Lotus we know decided not even to service Lotus cars any more. I think they sent the business over to EVOMS. The current Scottsdale Lotus is actually part of Scottsdale Ferrari.

Scottsdale Lotus&Ferrari

Just stopped by to buy some parts for my Lotus with Trevor and checked out the show room and talked with the salesman. the tech came from Chicago and has been doing Lotus stuff for over 15 years so I think you will be in good hands.

On the floor they had 2 Evoras (one white with black interior, other silver with tan interior) 1 Lotus Elise and 1 Exige..........while outside they had a Krypton green Evora and a silver Exige S260.......

I think this will work out for the Lotus Community for the better. I am only saying this since I have been fixing stuff from the old Lotus dealer ie duct taped guage pod that cost some bucks to install and that is how it was delivered/completed and they actually let it go out the door. I will post pictures later.

I also stopped by the Lotus dealer last week to have them inspect my (new to me) 2007 Exige S. I’m with you guys on changing your own oil, but I had them do it this time while it was up on the rack. The Tech “Corey” was a great guy and seems to know his stuff. After a full inspection and oil change I was out of there under $200.00. The only thing they found was at one point the battery leaked acid and made a little mess but everything else was perfect.

I bought my new CO Elise from Scottsdale Lotus last week. The sales guys are nice to deal with but didn't know much about Lotus, they spend more time selling Lamborghinis etc. But the tech guy Corey, as previously mentioned, knows his stuff and was most helpful in giving me an intro to the car. My only concern is that he seems to be the only one there certified to work with Lotus.

PS I live in North Scottsdale and could be interested in group drives.

Check the southwest region thread! The last few drives we had it was psoup, Trevor and myself! I know Trevor is working out his bugs with his newly installed FF kit, while I am finishing up my VF TVS install!
