Driving home in the pouring rain (unusual for L.A.) and the Lotus suddenly won’t accelerate. Engine is on, but when I push the pedal the car won’t move, just sort of shudder forward.
I park the car, turn off the engine and try again. No luck. Engine warning light is on.
A call to Lotus of Beverly Hills and Allen, the service manager once again goes out of his way to help. Allen says he will stay open and wait for me to arrive.
He calls a flat bed tow truck that specializes in Lotus cars (Wilson & Valley towing in Los Angeles at 310-450-1139). The truck shows up promptly, I give him my tow hook that I keep in the car and the driver pulls it right up.
I meet the tow truck at Lotus Beverly Hills. The car is unloaded flawlessly.
Allen attaches the computer in ten seconds and he sees that a few major components in the engine are not working.
He thinks for a minute and tells me that he’s seen this once before on another Lotus.
The 7.5 amp fuse in the right side fuse box has blown.
He replaces it for free, checks to make sure everything is working properly and gives me a spare to carry, also for free.
He checks my oil for the heck of it, and I’m heading home.
Only cost? $150 for the flatbed tow.
Business is business...but to find a mechanic like Allen is a really unbelievable.
In the meantime, it might pay off to carry spare fuses in your car....although I bet a lot of you already do.
