What number and where is the fuse located? Is it under the passenger dash or front passenger panel? Or, is it best to disconnect the battery just to make sure you don't short the fuse?

Fuse is F1 in main fuse box.

I just finished replacing mine, with plenty of units at the local radio shack. I ended up modifying my install a bit. I always hated how the adapter is not switched (accidentally leaving something plugged in and draining battery). So, I ran a relay from the front fuse block for the switched stereo and power the cigarette adapter straight from the battery (from a distribution block I had installed for my alpine amp). I upgraded the wiring and fuse in the process also to handle a higher load (I believe the stock wire and fuse in the radio shack kit is only rated for 10 amps). Now my new cigarette adapter is only ON with the ignition

Thanks for the link. I didnt notice the check your local store area by zip, or have it sent to a local store area of the site when I first looked at the link, since I just wanted to get the part number, I just put in my zip and it said they were in stock at the local store, but they said they didnt have any when I was their the other day. I asked about their other stores in town and he went to his computer and he said they didnt have any in stock. either.

I think I have seen something similar in the HELP products area of Pep Boys where they have generic parts. I'll try them next or just order one online and have it sent to the local Radioshack.

I happened to have this Radio Shack part already so did the mod this afternoon with some other stuff.

What a great, simple mod! GPS power plug doesn't fall out anymore.

For some reason Radio Shack charges 6.99 shipping for this on their site. If you buy it from Radio Shack on Ebay it includes free shipping:

As I said, every parts store I've even visited has them. NAPA is but one.

I recently did this mod a month, or so, ago. Had to purchase two different units until I got one with the right diameter. The good news is Autozone, O'Reilly, NAPA, AdvancedAuto all carry the same two units. Get the smaller diameter one with the flip up lid. I think it was 8 or 12 bucks.

Things to note:
1. You'll have to bend in the two tabs on the side of it for it to work. Will make sense once you buy it.
2. The electrical connectors on the back make contact with the mount point on the firewall. You'll need to bend the positive terminal down 45-60 degrees and wrap electrical tape on the mount point (to be extra safe). If contact is make the fuse will pop. Both units from the parts store are longer than the RadioShack unit and have this issue.

I did the mod about a month ago. I purchased the Enercell unit on Ebay. Search Enercell #270-046. There is a vendor selling them for $7.99 with free shipping. They appear to be old new stock. Pulled the fuse and changed it out. Works great.
