Just got the tracking number from the distributor, the red lights are on the way and the estimated arrival to me is on 12/2.

Would be cool if the start button pulsed slowly until pushed. I realize this would involve more than just changing the bulb.

Did you happen to order any extras? My start button is out and I'll take any non-stock color.

I don't think I have any extras in this order, but I'll probably put in another order if this goes well, and I'll include you then. If I do end up with any extras, I'll let you know.

Ok, 4 red LEDs arrived at my house today. Tomorrow I'm gonna try to send them out.

LED swap

1) There are two screws on the plastic panel near the bottom, in the back of the cubby hole. Unscrew these, and push the panel down to pop it out. Try not to bend or twist it, because there are 2 plastic bits that hold the top in, and you don't want to break them.

2) On the start button assembly, there's a square switch block harness. that square block has a little indented tab (PHOTO 1) that you push in with a small screwdriver or pick tool to release it from the switch (PHOTO 2).

3) Unscrew the collar that holds the assembly to the panel (PHOTO 3). Take the assembly out of the panel and remove all the trim ring things (PHOTO 4).

4) Now you have the start button free (PHOTO 5).

5) Pull the start button straight off. There's a little tab in the button so it can only go back one way (PHOTO 6).

6) Ok here's the important step. Now you can see the LED (PHOTO 7). Using tweezers or pliers, carefully pull it out. There is a little spring behind the LED, so make sure not to lose the spring. There's also a metal collar that may come out with the LED (PHOTOS 8 & 9), and you will have to put that back in the correct way, or the LED won't work. It only goes in the housing 2 ways, and one of them is wrong, so take note when you pull it out.

7)I find it easiest to put the collar in the housing using tweezers first (PHOTO 10), and then press the new bulb in place.

8) Now that the LED is in, I would reconnect the switch with the square harness block, turn the ignition on, and see if you get light (PHOTO 11). The square wire block only goes on one way, but be careful not to bend the metal prongs when snapping it on.

9) If you get light, great! If not, maybe the metal collar is on backwards, or the LED is not pressed down all the way.

10) If you got light, shut the ignition off, and press the start button cover onto the assembly (PHOTO 12). It only goes one way.

11) Now, take off the square harness block again so you can put all the trim rings back on, put the assembly back into the plastic panel (making sure the "engine start" text is not upside down or crooked), screw the gray threaded ring on, plug the square harness block back in, screw the panel back in, and that's it!

*Sorry for the picture quality, I only have a cell phone cam. If you need any clarification, PM me, and I'll be glad to help.

for those of you looking for replacement leds, you can get them for under $1.50 shipped. white, red, or amber. check this thread: https://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f101...acement-81243/

(link to amber : Lumapro 3FRL2 Miniature LED Lamp)

I just ordered an amber one. I was looking for that thread when I stumbled across this one. $15 for a tiny LED is high. LEDs in this size are inexpensive.

I agree, these LEDs are more expensive, but they are the exact bulb from APEM, who makes the start button assembly. You don't have to wrap these in foil to make them fit properly. Some distributors wanted as high as $23 for the OEM LED, so when I came across $14 shipped I figured it wasn't a bad price. Lol it's still better then 45 bucks for the whole switch assembly from Lotus.

The LED are the same one. The reason I said it is a little small because I did not want to bend the connector. So I figured, hey.. just wrap it. Nothing wrong with that. That could be the reason why the original LED kept on blinking all the time. Loose connection.

Nice write up on how to take it apart and put it back in again.

I've never had the blinking issue, but a loose collar could definitely cause that. In any case, if those LEDs work the same as the ones I found, I would go with the cheaper ones too haha. If you find a source for blue or green, post them up. Blue seems to be popular here, but it's about $22 bucks without shipping . I'm expecting the first blue to be here in a few days, so hopefully I can get a pic.

Here you go. Looks cool to me. My swap was very easy as the LED collar/clip did not pop out of the socket.
