I've got an 05' and just ordered a new assembly because my contact point on the bottom had broken off on the original - the new one is glued so you can't get the ring off...now I went back and looked at my old one and it too has glue markings on it so i'm guessing they ALL were like that at one point and over time the vibration broke the seal

Hmmm... I'll give that a whirl next time I have the panel out and then order one if it proves successful. Thanks.

Hey everyone, wow seems like there is some interest in these lights. Here is the website if anyone wants to purchase a replacement bulb:

Lumapro - Lamps, Miniature Lamp, Led, Led Lamp

They are the Lumapro minature LED lamp. I think they come in white, red, and amber and they are like 2 bucks. Just make sure it is the T1-3/4 midget groove 12 volt and you should be set. Message me if you need any additional details. The blues ones that I found were on a different site and they were pretty pricey.

05 Ardent Red Elise +60k miles

For the record, I don't believe the new-style start button allows you to disassemble it anymore. I had to buy a new one because mine broke and the one they sent me seemed like one solid piece - I don't think I could have pried it apart without breaking it.

Don't mean to bring this back from the dead but I appreciate all the info from this thread. Just purchased a replacement START Button LED because mine began flickering. It's possible it could be a loose connection like a few of you stated but for $1.60 shipped, why not just buy a new one.... Here's the link to the one I purchased:

Lumapro 3FRL2 Miniature LED Lamp
Color: Amber

I actually just installed one. The Lumapro is indeed a tad smaller. Just squeeze the contacts a little closer together and everything will be fine.

Had tires installed and an alignment done today. Ordered a white LED for my start button which is bunt out. Bought a clay bar kit, picking up some a polish kit, and gonna finish it off with maguires tech wax 2.0. Hardtop is going on since it is so freaking hot, now. Interior is getting a complete detailing. New speakers are being installed in the dash.

I am overhauling this thing. Thanks for the heads up with these bulbs. The only question I have is... Are there LED blinkers? I have a blown bulb and am about to install new ones. I am doing a search, but recommendations are always welcome.

Just installed a white bulb from superbrightleds.com and their shipping was really quick, and the bulb fight right in with no problems. I would say this is hands down the best mod for the money and effort required.

Anyone know how to open the switch to replace the light? Mine appears to be sealed and I can't open without breaking. I went ahead a bought a new start button and the light works great, only paid about $30 shipped.

I'll tell you, if you could find a suction cup, you could probably easily pull out the button with that, and not have to take anything else apart. Mine came apart really easy though.

Jaguar,

Your detailed write-up on how to replace the start button LED was great. I just replaced my OEM amber LED with a blue LED.

I've attached a couple of extra photos. One shows how the plastic panel attaches at the top. The other shows how the start button housing has a tab on just one side.
