Oh - anyone figured out a use for the little black thing that comes with the retainers yet.....?

I used it on my keychain the day I got it. Was it supposed to be used for something else?

LOL Nope, just something fun.. I shipped them with the LED rings and the EL sheets, just wondered if anyone noticed. I had some hanging in my cubicle at work, but sadly I think today is my last day in it. My 9' x 9' x 5.5' home away from home / mini-lab of the last 7 years has been replaced by one 6' desk, with a 6" tall 'backsplash' looking thing in a sea of 50 other people. "Open seating" they call it. No picking your nose in private any more! Definitely no more posting on the forums during breaks any more. I need Google Glass or the Oculus Rift headset!

Actually I have to downgrade from the 3 monitors I have now to 2 in the 'new world'.. It's just that I get to sit with my back (and monitors) to the row of managers, who will be about 10 feet behind me. So eeeeeeverything I see, they can see. While trying to open Google today, Internet Explorer on the PC I was using was running reaaaaly slow and dropped the "G", becoming "oogle".com. I HIGHLY recommend NOT typing that in at work if you want to keep your job... Somehow the animated porn GIF made it through the filters and was pumping away there on my screen for all to see.. Fortunately it was just the guys in the lab, God forbid it was in the new area!

Also no desktop / workstation PC's (too ugly / bulky - nothing under the desks but feet!) - everyone gets a laptop. Right now I run SolidWorks on a workstation with 24GB of RAM and a 1GB graphics card, and it's almost fast enough to keep up. I can't wait to see what they got me for a laptop.. Since the laptop isn't in yet I haven't officially moved over, but they told us today to stop over there once in a while and 'check our email' to make it look like we were using the space.. When I'm doing SolidWorks I'm at my desk 12 hours a day, but when I'm working on a project I can spend 5 straight days in the lab.. I have to go pretend though I guess.

I did notice it and was going to make a comment on it but forgot in time. Bu the way, look into privacy screens that you can put over your monitors. We use them here and you have to be essentially dead on to see whats on the screen.

They bought one of those for my mechanical engineer co-worker to try... I think they must have got a cheap one, all it does is make his screen a little blurry up close and gets a bit dimmer off-axis but still totally visible. Kind of like looking sideways at a cheap LCD screen. Will have to inquire as to whether or not they will be allowed... 7 years in a cube; it's going to take some time to adjust!

They also put in this huge LED stock ticker thing, you can read it from a 1/4 mile away! Right now it says "Welcome to Operations", no idea what they're actually going to put on it but I think it's going to give me a sun tan..

Good news, I shipped out the last of the EL panels, LED rings and LCD screens today for everyone that paid! Unfortunately since it's so close to Xmas, they can't guarantee they'll be delivered before, but they could be!

So Nessel said that when he first fired it up it had the bluish white appearance, but after several minutes it turned white.

Yeah I didn't really notice that it was blue after awhile. Initially yes, but i don't know if my eyes adjusted or if I'm slightly color blind or whatever. Let me know what you guys see when you do yours.

Jeff your needles looks like there is a lot of scatter. Which needles did you use?

They are the harley ones, I think it may just be the pic. In person there is very little bleed and the lcd screen is black on red in the pic it looks like the stock one. Also the face is red so I think the camera picks up on that a little more than it should.

Makes sense. Is your light that blue or is that color off also?

It is a little off but not to much, I have only run it for about 2 min but it has turned less blue/green in those min alone. I think it will become more pure white with a little burn in. I am going to get the real camera out and see if i can get some truer pics tomorrow.

Bit the bullet and went all in today. I started off by modifying the NewHaven LCD panel so that it would display the gas and temp icons. Cutting into the LCD with a razor was a bit terrifying, but it came out great. (I have a spare one left if anyone is interested).

Also this was my first time soldering anything. I just took it slow and apparently I didn't mess anything up because everything works and lights up!

Massive thanks again to Riceburner98 for all his hard work and detailed tutorials. I might eventually paint the needles red, but I'm happy with what I have now.
