Seattle to Salt Lake?

My father just purchased a new elise (2011 Chrome Orange Final Edition) from Seattle, WA. He is very anxious to pick up the car but we live in Salt Lake City, Utah. We have been told that the mountain passes on I84 between Seattle and SLC are brutal in the winter and I was curious as to if anyone had any insight on what a safe route would be to take? We would be traveling the first week of March and would like to make the trip as short as possible. If anyone has any insight that would be fantastic. Thanks.

There's probably only one way around it, and that's to head south towards portland or california and then head east to SLC. If you go east towards Montana, then down, you'll have to go over a bunch of passes.

If you still happen to be in town on a Saturday, you could bring it to its first car gathering. It's only about 10 min away from where you're likely buying it.
