In transit to my next adventure.

My next adventure takes me out of Saudi Arabia and into Cincinnati, by way of Baltimore, MD.

I got my car all strapped in...

Here is how the loaded container looks...

All sealed up...next stop Baltimore, MD.

Once it hits the shore in Baltimore, my son and I will be making a road trip from the port to Cincinnati, OH.

Cool! It is a very unique car...1 of 12 ever built by Lotus. The interesting part is that all 12 were shipped to Saudi Arabia! I've got one of them with me. My son already announced that he needs it to get to UC...

Welcome home!

Guessing you work for Bechtel... I'd love to hear a few words about your Saudi experience overall, and a few reflections on what you learned while there.

BTW, nice car!

Have a good trip.

One question - isn't that car going to be uneligible for street registration here? It's not US-spec, correct? I realize it's the exact same as my car, but if it wasn't federalized, you won't be able to register or (probably more importantly) insure it.

Thanks...
Didn't Colin Chapman say?

We'll see shortly...
Did you get one of the 12 cars from Saudi Arabia? In 2009, Lotus built 144 Cup 260s globally...out of those 144, only 12 were built for track only use...all 12 were shipped to Saudi Arabia.
Insurance only wants a VIN...

Nope...I worked for the Royal Saudi Air Force...I'm an F-15 structures engineer.

I'd like to do the C&C talked about here...
Thanks again...

Its Fuel Coffee on Riverside Drive, right on the Ohio river in Cincy. Sat mornings. They are on FB. Not aware of a similar gathering in Dayton. Only thing close is the gathering of cars at the Beavercreek Lofinos parking lot on late Friday afternoon....

No, mine is one of the 21 US-spec 2009 Sport 260s, but it is one of the few that was built on the line as a Cup car before they switched it to a Sport designation and sent it here. Has the track wiring harness, Ohlins, etc. Not exactly the same as yours, but my point was that all of the elements that would make it fed-worthy are.

The insurance company only needs a VIN to write the policy, and the implied assertion that the vehicle is legal for road use. Insurance clients need insurance companies to pay out when they crash their cars or their college age son crashes into someone else. Slipping it through then finding out that they deny all claims when something happens because the car is not federally legal to be driven on the road might be the kind of mess that our dear Colin also found himself in at times...

I do hope that you can find a way to legally get the car registered and road-worthy here. But I also hope that nothing happens. This recent story comes to mind: Feds crush a Land Rover Defender to scare illegal importers

Sure...
But you can home build a car and get that registered. All it needs is brake lights, 4 wheels and mirrors to register. I don't think you even need fenders or head lights.

And...I am not trying to illegally import a vehicle! I am importing my personal property that I've acquired overseas that I've owned more than a year. That is the loophole that I've been handed. The trick is to import it with your personal belongings...that way you also don't have to pay the import duties either.

We'll see how this plays out in the next few weeks...so far, so good. I was told by the exporting agency that I have all of my documents in order and the importing agency that all of my paperwork is correct for what I'm doing.

That would be cool to see both cars side-by-side! ...and compare notes...

Congrats on getting out of the Magic Kingdom. I have nearly three more years here. And please let us know about your success (or otherwise) in getting the Lotus to the States and registered. I wanted to buy mine here, but Hethel flatly told me that this won't work. The Stack unit has to be changed, among other things. I hope they are wrong and you are correct. And if you are, there is an Exige here that might be a good buy....one for the road and one for the track.

Is the name of the place on Riverside Dr. "Fuel Coffee"? If not, what is the name of the coffee shop/house? A cross street or something to be able to find the place... What time do they gather and about what time does everybody scatter?

Thanks
