Cool 2ZZ MRS! - Where should I go next?

Hello all! I used to troll a lot & made the Supercharger FAQ on newcelica.org, but graduate school & medical school got in the way._ Now I'm back, & I'd like to share my current project and post up a baseline dyno here by the end of Summer, after school.

My 03 Celica GTS bit the dust when someone blew a stop sign & took her out, so I pulled the GTS 2zz, stored it in my garage, and I'm working on this project I bought from an owner in California._ After fixing almost all the faults of this swap...I built up the suspension first...pretty much to the MAX._ Later, I'm looking to max out the stock MRS 2zz with a emanage ultimate + vmanage tune and add flex fuel. And even later, I'd like to build the GTS 2zz for a stroker, GTX35R, standalone, etc._ Here's what I'm working with:

It looks like it's time for you to graduate to a Lotus...

BTW...What was the original engine? And the PPE intake is just a cold air intake for the engine swap?

^Exactly!

These are fantastic cars, I cannot understand why they are not more popular. Even with the 1zz, they still have just enough grunt to be a blast for a street car. Toyota reliability, well balanced mid engine chassis, cheap parts, and a decent aftermarket. I imagine a 2zz must make these things perfect!

This is a financially logical alternative to a lotus, imo. No worrying about accidents or hitting something and dealing with replacing clams and crash boxes and waiting for parts. If it gets written off, easy enough to quickly find another and transfer your parts over to it.

But... You are on a Lotus forum, so of course I must say, your next step is to get a Lotus as a garage mate to this!

Not too long ago I was in the market for one of these. It was either a 2zz mr2 spyder or a turbo miata. I test drive one of these with a stiffened frame and a turbo miata on the same day. I ended up buying the miata because it was the smarter purchase. One-owner, better maintained, and fully documented. But throughout my whole ownership of that miata, I couldn't get the feel of the mr2 spyder out of my mind. No matter what modifications I made to my miata, it couldn't compare.

Ended up selling my miata for the elise.

My biggest complaint with this iteration of the MR2 was the blatant, and I mean blatant, Porsche Boxster styling influence. And they didn't even pull it off very well. Really a shame too, because I'm sure the underpinnings are great. The gen before this had a funky vibe, but this one just reeks poor mans Boxster. I't like the mid 80's Japanese Harley clones with 4 wheels.

Yea the PPE intake are for MRS's with a 2zz Swap. I got it clocked to the left Air opening.

And I wish I could invest in a good pair of seats & harnesses & a roll bar...but I'm only half way through Med school. Still got to refresh & upgrade some stuff before I invest in those. It would help. I was pinned to my door on some turns in my last autocross.
