Choose your engine sound

It's not bad enough that auto manufacturers are replacing knobs with a touch screen, the clutch is slowly becoming extinct and BMW is sending engine sound through the speakers because it has to be quiet from outside the car, now Renault has a feature called r-sound effect that takes it one step further. You can choose what you want your engine to sound like! The newest Top Gear episode reviews the car with the system. The choices range from other sporty Renault models to the GTR to a motorcycle to some kind of space ship.

I saw that on the episode...stupid beyond belief-imagine if the money/time/development spent on that had been spent improving/lightening a different thing in the car?

2016 AMG GT-S
2012 Caterham R400 (sold)
2010 Chrome Orange Evora (Sold )
2005 ST Elise (sold)
2002 MB G500 lifted etc.
2003 Cooper S (track)
we'll see what Lotus comes up with next...

I'll buy two of those sound units, please.

It's good to see the tech has finally been released to consumers. I remember seeing an early version of this 15 years ago on Top Gear or Fifth Gear, or one of those other British car shows. This tech came about as a refinement of noise cancellation technology that reduces noise inside the cabin. One of the engineers set it to "Jetsons" and it was hilarious. I loved it.

That it's just coming out as a consumer option 15 years later sounds (no pun intended) as if maybe they did have other priorities and that this was a slow burn or spare time project.

This idea has been around a long time; I remember back in 1969 for a Xmas gift I received a plastic motorcycle engine look a like toy for my Stingray bike that made motorcycle sounds, but alas my bike still only accelerated as fast as I could pedal.

That Renault may sound like a Lotus F1 car but it will only accelerate like a Fiat 500.

The continued pussification of the automobile. It cant be stopped now. They wont stop until every vehicle they build can be driven by a one-legged, one-armed chick. Just great.

Also in evidence, the continued misogyny inherent in the language used by grown men who should know better? ;-)

It is admitted by all that he was much addicted to women, as well as very expensive in his intrigues with them, and that he debauched many ladies of the highest quality; among whom were Posthumia, the wife of Servius Sulpicius; and Lollia, the wife of Aulus Gabinius.
