Thanks for the update. 100% appropriate approach for a non-structural fastener. Not perfect, but the cost to R&R the engine would be wasteful. I bet the current fix lasts the life of the car.

Long term update...

We are now a little over 5 years since my friend had the welding done with the engine in the car. It is still holding and working well!

I think the key was in post #10, where I think the hole was drilled and tapped more deeply and a longer bolt used.

Or, not....
