I drove an EVO IX last night for the first time - holy cow!

I drove an EVO IX last night for the first time. My neighbor has lowered it and tricked it out a bit....

Holy cow! I found it VERY difficult to drive - blazingly fast, in fact so much power that the car just wants to launch if you barely touch the accelerator. Totally different driving experience than my Lotus!

I love driving fast cars...but the EVO seemed to be very twitchy.

Anybody else have any comments about this?

(And yes, before you say it, I know it could just be me...)

Maybe he has the front suspension toed out somewhat for handling & to minimize tire wear? That makes for twitchy steering.

Have you driven fast AWD cars before? Top Gear did a segment on the EVO FQ450 (something like that) and it was able to tail a gallardo around the track.

Like you mentioned above, I think it might just be you

Yeah, but besides the fact that it might be me.... do you have any more thoughts or information about driving an EVO like that?

It seems like a massive amount of power...almost too much to drive normally on the street.

The Lotus seems like the PERFECT amount of power compared to that.

The Evo is the best performance car for the money period. I have driven them and love them. The saftey of AWD, the turbocharged power, the ease of modifications, the fact that 400 WHP costs about 1500 dollars, you name it. The sus pension coul dbe a little firmer but that is a small complaint.

Try ridin in one that makes over 500 hp. I rode in one witha 35R. That was scary fast.

Actually, he was right on the ass of a lime green Murcielago. Yeah, they also showed when you're off the boost you'll get your ass handed to you by a Daihatsu forklift.

I'd have to agree.

Larry, go test drive a stock Evo and see what you think. It sounds like your neighbor had his modified to his tastes. While the inherent greatness of the car still shined through, it sounds like his setup was a little odd for you. In stock form they are still very, strong and handle great with amazing amounts of feedback.
