2007 Exige Alternator Removal

Hi guys,

I need to remove the alternator on my '07 Exige S
The thermostat is wonky and needs to be replaced.

I have done this job on an Elise (not exactly an enjoyable job!!) before
but with the supercharger and other material present inside the passenger rear wheel well
I was hoping someone could provide some support or a DYI.

I do not plan on rear clam removal.

So far all I find online are references to Elise not Exige.

Thanks much.

Hmmm, Just had the supercharger out, have to look in there

You might have to remover or at least rotate the supercharger/alternator bracket

Do you have the Service Notes? The supercharged supplement is where to look.

What is concerning you?

The alternator is pivoted towards the firewall relative to the NA cars which actually makes the top bolt easier to reach. You might be able to replace the thermostat by simply swinging the alternator back onto the firewall. I don't have an AC any longer and cannot recall the degree to which the compressor gets in the way.

Removing the belt requires a low-profile 19mm socket and breaker-bar. I always have to scratch my head when I come to refitting the belt, so I'd make a good drawing

I have long since decided that getting the clam off is easier than people claim and easier than trying to work through the wheel-arch, but I am pretty ham-fisted.

Good luck!

exigegus: The alternator sets the supercharger bracket location, so effectively comes off first. In short, if there is enough space with the alternator off, the supercharger bracket should not be moved.

The bracket might be in the way to get the alternator out since you cannot, I think go straight up

I have done this a few times. You can do it with the clam on etc it isn't hard.

Disconnect the battery!

Disconnect the alternator and set it down below being careful not to get the wires caught up or pinched. There are just the two bolts.

Drain the coolant somewhere else so it doesn't all come out on the alternator!

EZ!

2007 Exige S with almost every track mod...
