2010 Exige Grilles

Just ordered a 2010 Exige clam from GRP, no grilles included and Lotus hasn’t stocked these in a while so I’ll have to fabricate my own. I’m worried about the radiator exit ones since they’re not flat, anybody have any luck making these?

I had to go through this and it is a lot worse than Lotus being out of stock. The vendor that Lotus used to make the grills is no longer in business. The vendor owned the templates so Lotus has no way of making them. You will find that the grill material is only available in the UK if you want the same size as OEM. I convinced a company in the NE USA to make a set from my originals but he now lists himself as being on sabbatical. If you want his name, PM me and I'll give it to you.

This is not good news. Mine are getting rusty. Seems like it would be a good investment to make molds off of some stock one and find an aluminum material to make replacements out of.

You would be amazed what a company doesn’t do by themselves
It is a dead product so the inclination to make new ones is minimal so once the supplier is gone poor they disappear

Talk to this guy.. He made me a set of front grills for my Exige. My car came with some chicken wire grill and I gave up trying to find a used OEM set. The stuff he sent me, I'd be surprised if any Lotus Owner wouldn't know they aren't OEM. He even puts in the oem square that goes around the tow hook...

BBB Motors, LLC

I sent him my chicken wire grill so he could start making S2 Exige grills... I had to bend the grill material he sent me.. not hard but would be better if they came formed..

It is interesting, 'online sources' list a current price for these, in the past that has usually meant that things are available.

How recently have you called an actual Lotus dealer and asked?

https://www.google.com/search?client...1&q=A122B0129F

5 sources.....
I say this because similar things were said about the front indicators and I purchased them easily

I'm currently making my grills for the same GRP clam, and it really isn't bad at all. I found that scoring the mesh with a dremel cutoff tool makes it very easy to cut an arc, and I also use "trauma shears" for larger straight cuts. For ends, just find something lying around your garage that has the radius you want to bend - use a tube or a 2x4 depending on what kind of bend you want. It only gets tricky when you want to have a compound bend, but single bends are trivial.

I also suggest doing all this before painting and primer in case you scrape anything.

I actually had email contact with Lotus about these parts about 2 years ago. At that time, they had over 30 sets on backorder. Wouldn't hurt calling over to the UK again and seeing if there is an update.

Spoke to Lotus Orlando and they quoted me nearly $1k for the grilles, called up Gator Motorsport and they said it’s a miracle if they’re actually available. Lotus Garage has prices but every time I’ve ordered from them it’s taken months for items to arrive.

I worked with Dino at Gator and at the time, it was the same thing. Places had them listed but they were not available.

I spoke with Robert Chapman, [email protected], at the time and was told the story about the grilles. You could drop him a note and see if the situation has changed.
