Exhaust drone, Exige vs Elise

I just put a new Arqray single exit on my Exige... same exhaust I had on my Elise.

Does the rear clam or roof scoop make it drone more? The Arqay had very little drone on the freeway... with the Exige and same model Exhaust, the Drone is as bad as a Stage 2.

Anyone experience this?

no, but would that affect noise at 3500 rpms? i suppose there is a little drag from the SC and would require a tiny more throttle input, but my elise was NEVER EVER this Drone-y. I am about to remove this muffler.

I'm guessing there is more volume flowing through the supercharged engine at 3500 rpms vs. NA. Is that enough to make the drone worse I'm not sure. It's also possible your current exhaust is more used and therefore has less sound deadening material, though if it's new that's not likely. Either way, it is what it is and if you do not like it I'm not sure what other choices you have.

the current exhaust is brand new... literally 1 day old. the Aqrays are expansion chambers... not a muffler with packing material, so they don't ever change tone or loudness. I sent off an email to Arqray, I'll see what they say, but you may be correct with the extra air. hmmm.

I went from a Larini Club Sport to an Inokinetic Sonic Fury on my S240 and it had no drone.

To clarify, the Larini had some drone but not the Inokinetic.

My car came with a Larini SE and my is a 2006 Exige so it was not SC'd. It was pretty dang loud but drone was not too bad, or it wasn't bad enough to hear it over all the other noise.

Fast forward to Rev300, the car became almost unbearable due to super loud exhaust. I then bought a BOE ST exhaust and while it was a bit quieter, the drone was once again unbearable. I then tried to add a resonator and that helped a bit and then swapped to a custom built magnaflow and it was tamer still but the drone was just as bad.

Then came the sonic fury... Perfection... loud past 5K of rpm, zero drone and quiet under 4K. Even on a hot day, with AC on, windows up there is zero drone.. I can hear my SC for the first time...

If you're in the LA area, hit me up, I'll take you for a ride...

That would be appreciated! Thank you!

I will be setting up more LA dinner meets in the future.
