Saw my first 3-Eleven in the flesh and on track...

Had a chance to run with this baby at Spring Mountain....the 3-Eleven looks so much better in the flesh than in photos. This was the Race model w/o the roll cage--460BHP/Xtrac sequential. The owner was having his race team try to do some setup work at the track as best they could to improve its handling characteristics.

While the 3-11 was fast in a straight line, the owner's lap times were much slower (several seconds) than mine in my 2-11. When driven by a pro-driver (current Pirelli World Challenge TC Class Champion), the car was able to do slightly better lap times than my current stock-engined 2-11, as driven by me, aka The Old Man according to @eldonz ;)

This 3-11 needs a lot of setup work (and more) as it was delivered to the owner from the dealer in order to reach its true potential, IMHO.
But, it LOOKS MARVELOUS on track! ��

They have a lot more rake in the car then what you run with your Exige. Take a look at the Red Bull F1 car.

To my amateur eyes it looks like its so high that ground effects wont even matter?

I agree..... ride height needs to be checked. Having said that, Lotus does recommend ride heights for the S3 variant that are greater than the S2. Lotus recommended ride height settings for the V6CupR is 126mm front and 136mm rear. Clearly the V6 Exige rides higher than my 2-11 or my previous Exige Cup255...photos below.

The race team kept lowering the rear because the "pro-driver" felt it needed less rake. I don't see any negative rake at all.

In fact, they said they couldn't go any lower in the rear for fear of rubbing the fender liners....-eek-

Going too low can choke the underbody airflow, too, so there's a compromise to be had. Also, "ground effect" and "underbody aero" are actually two different mechanisms that just work together. Plus, higher ride height makes the car less sensitive to roll/dive, so sometimes more predictable handling yields faster laptimes than better grip when better grip is less predictable.
