1988 40th Anniversary Edition Esprit thread

Hi All, I've just bought a pearl white 40th Anniversary Edition Esprit last weekend. I see that of the 88 made, there are still a good amount of them posted online. I'm going to use this thread to find as many of the 88 cars as I can and post them here. If anyone has any information about cars I don't have here, feel free to post information about them. In the end, I'd like to have all 88 accounted for...

NOTE: Not all 1988 pearl white Esprits were U.S. 40th Anniversary Editions, a separate lot of 40 numbered cars (pearl white with blue/gray interior) were sold in the UK as anniversary editions. Also, in 1988, you could buy a regular pearl white Esprit with white wheels and spoiler that were not 40th Anniversary Editions (they didn't have the blue/gray interior). The approximate cost of a new Anniversary Edition car was $79,000 back in 1988.

I'll start with my personal car, #20 of 88. It was sitting in a warehouse for twenty years in Missouri and just brought out into the light last week. Since it's been sitting so long, it will need everything gone over, but the nice thing is that is all original and complete, down to the tires and original radio.. The pictures are showing it being loaded out of the warehouse, and me driving it home, 22 hour round trip back to Colorado.

1988 Lotus Esprit Esprit Turbo SE Anniversary Edition Additional Info:
**** Beautiful and very RARE 1988 Lotus Esprit Turbo SE Anniversary Edition # 26 of only 88 Built **** I am listing this Gorgeous Lotus for my Brother. The Vehicle only has 17,544 Original Miles and has always been garaged and pampered here in California. It is fully loaded and in Excellent condition with no History of body damage, etc. Comes with Original books, Manual, Plaque and Original Window Sticker !! My brother purchased the Car from a Gentleman who inherited it from the Original Owner. During the Transfer process with the Calif. Dept. of Motor Vehicles by the Inheritor, an error was made regarding the actual mileage on the Vehicle, resulting in a Branded Title. My brother rectified this problem with DMV and the Vehicle's Title and actual miles ( 17,544 ) has been Certified and is now corrected and clear and is on the Title.
Recent work performed on the Car includes a New Timing Belt, Stainless Steel Clutch Cable, Water Pump, Slave Cylinder and Tune up. This is a very Rare and Exotic Vehicle that gets compliments wherever it is driven. It will only increase in value.

Thank you for your enquiry regarding your Lotus Esprit Commemorative Edition and please find enclosed your Certificate of Provenance, which provides details from the original build records when the car left the factory.

The VIN supplied for your Lotus Esprit was SCCFC20A8JHF62304 which can be broken down into the manufacturer identifier code (SCC=UK manufacturer, Lotus Cars Ltd.), the model type

{F=Esprit Turbo), the series (C=series 3), the ventilation option (2=heater and air conditioning), the engine type (0=type 910, 2.2 turbocharged), the restraint system (A=active belts), the check

digit (8), the mode! year (J=1988), the assembly plant (H=Hethel), the market the chassis is made for (F=USA 50 states), the market the engine was made for (6=USA 50 states, Canada &

Japan) and the serial number (2304). The original engine number was LP910 8804 24874 which can be broken down into the market the engine is destined for (L=USA 50 states, Canada & Japan), the engine equipment (P=high compression with A/C), the engine type

{910=Lotus 2.2 litre turbocharged), the engine build date (8804=1988, April), and the engine serial number (24874). The transaxle number was C5234.

The original body colour was pearlescent white, Lotus paint code P02. The interior was trimmed in limited edition light and dark blue leather with grey pigskin inserts and indigo blue carpets. As the car was a limited edition, the car came comprehensively equipped including the

following: strut mounted rear spoiler, removable glass panel roof, unique trim, pearlescent white all over (including body coloured sills and wheels), Sony I.C.E., illumination instruments changed from green to orange to match the I.C.E. system, polished wood (elm) instrument binnacle surrounds and Stirling silver fascia plaque. The car was signed from production on the 12th May 1988. The car was imported into the USA by Lotus Cars USA Inc. who would retain any further history. They have informed me that the selling dealer was Jim Marino Imports Inc. in Alhambra, CA who sold it to a customer in Los Angeles, CA on the 24th October 1988.

The 1988 model year was the first for the new Peter Stevens designed body. The Commemorative model was to mark Forty Years of Achievement at Lotus 1948-1988 and the only colour available was pearlescent white, there was meant to be 88, but I have only found records for 87 of them. The 1988 model year ran from serial number 2000 (October 1987) to 2479 (September 1988) with the serial number sequence being shared with the USA, Canada and Japan markets, so for clarification the following is based on serial number sequence and data available to date for the US 1988 model year cars only; Your car is the 262nd out of 395 cars (including 87 Commemorative models).

Your car is the 44th out of 88 cars in Pearl White (first engineering car was also in pearl white). Your car is the 43rd out of 87 Commemorative cars recorded. This differs from the edition number displayed on the window sticker which shows your car was number 36 of 88 cars as these are allocated independently from production and do not follow serial number sequence.

#51 or #52

rare 1988 40th Anniversary Lotus Esprit Turbo. There were only 88 of these special editions built. The plaque which identifies which number this car is has been damaged, but it is speculated to be number 51 or 52. I can not confirm this. This could be a fine example with a little time and effort. The first picture is what the car could look like if given the proper attention.

1988 Lotus Esprit Turbo is a limited anniversary edition with only 88 cars produced. This is #57 of 88. My car was featured in the May 2012 issue of Forza Magazine (for Ferrari enthusiasts) and was compared head to head with the 1988 Ferrari 328 on a cloudy day in Malibu. Sold in 2012. The second picture below is the same car for sale again 500 miles later.

For sale for $18,000 in 2015. 1988 ‘Commemorative Edition’ Lotus Esprit Turbo, #76 of 88 (as noted on the plaque on the passenger dashboard) in pearlescent white. The car is in excellent running condition with 47,807 miles. The car has been very lightly driven (under 8,000 miles in over 11 years), just gentle cruising--it has never been tracked or driven in any way that has stressed the engine or chassis. The engine, transmission and suspension are all stock with no modifications. The interior is trimmed in full light and dark blue Connolly leather with grey pigskin inserts and indigo blue carpet. The mid-mounted 2,174 cc 16-valve DOHC turbo-charged 4-cylinder engine drives the rear wheels through a 5-speed all synchromesh transaxle and uses a Bosche K-Jetronic fuel injection system and high intensity electronic ignition. Front and rear suspension are independent and brakes are hydraulic split circuits with a vacuum servo. Engine compression is 8.0:1 and turbo boost is 9.5 psi. Engine output is 215 bhp with 220 lbs/ft torque. 0-60 mph takes 5.1 seconds and the top speed is 146 mph. (All measurements quoted above are taken from official Lotus specifications.) I purchased this car in January 2004, when the mileage was 40,528, and I believe I am the third owner of the car. (The previous owner purchased the car in August 1995, when the mileage was 33,221.
