Caerbont Speedometer Wiring

My original Caerbont odometer stopped working, so I decided to replace it with a new digital one from Caerbont/Smith's. I am pleased with the looks, and it is 10 ounces lighter too. But now comes the installation...

You know that feeling in your stomach you got in high school math class when you received the question, "If a train leaves Chicago at 2:35pm traveling 80 mph, and another train leaves Cleveland traveling in the opposite direction..."
That's me when it comes to electrical stuff. I know the basics of DC current (not to brag, but I can make an LED glow with a battery). However, these wiring diagrams in the manual doesn't really tell me much when connecting to this new speedometer. So far, I think:
  1. black car wire goes black speedometer
  2. green car wire goes to green speedometer
  3. orange/brown car wire goes to ???? on speedometer (um, I'm gonna guess White/Black on the speedometer)

Then the speedometer manual says the red/white cable is for the illumination. Am I supposed to cut off one of the old bulb sockets and use a red wire from there?
