Esprit aftermarket Silicone coolant hoses

I would like to ask if anyone used the aftermarket silicone hoses in their Esprit and what their opinion is. I have a set of SAMCO branded set and I am thinking of using them, but found them a lot more flexible then the OEM Lotus ones and I am a bit concerned of their durability.

I will welcome any inputs on the above subject.

Cheers,

Zig

Don’t do it. I have a posting here ( can’t search now easily on phone but search Esprit forum for ‘Samco’ )

I had Samco hoses that turned out to be counterfeit. I contacted Samco (UK company around for decades) and confirmed they don’t make a hosenkit for Esprit.

I hate doing work over again. I use JAE branded hoses on all of my Esprits and have never had a failure. They might cost more (to be honest I haven't comparison shopped hoses), but I've never been stranded and the only times I get a face full of coolant anymore is regular maintenance.

I had driven my late 88 Esprit 50K miles in 49 months 2011-2015. Had shop install JAE hoses when I bought car in 2011. Zero problems. My current 87 Esprit leaked on Samco ( search my older thread on why I used them) and paid 8 hours shop time to remove and replace with JAE.

Cannot speak to long term reliability as I've just recently installed JAE's, but the fit and quality are perfect. You do need to lube the inside with some silicone spray to enable easier initial fitment when installing. I have the front radiator hoses, too, but will wait until next winter before attempting to pull down the coolant package/fans.

Long thread on my Samco fiasco, but check posts #61 and #64 for quick summary.

https://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f16...-issue-461252/

Summary:

1. 50K miles 49 months on late 88 Esprit (2011-2015) had JAE hoses installed at zero miles (for me) at 2011. Zero problems.
2. 88 Esprit totalled in 2015
3. Purchased 87 Esprit that came with new silicone hoses with 'Samco' logo.
4. Had Trackspec (trusted shop that also worked on late 88 Esprit) install new Samco silicone hoses.
5. 4K miles later, noticed delamination while checking AC for an issue.
6. barely 4 days later, bad leak springs.
7. One hose had expanded larger than normal. touching accessory belt and got cut open (post #61)

#64 describes that Samco confirmed:
1. They do not manufacture an Esprit kit
2. The Esprit 'Samco' kits are counterfeit and they served cease and desist order to eBay vendor.

Stick with JAE - I wasted the cost of a new JAE hose and 10 hours labor to remove/reinstall new JAE hoses.

I got 50K miles out of a JAE set; others have problems installing but my rock star mechanics make it happen and no drama.

The only Samco hose I have on my S4s is the connection to my blow off valve. No complaints...but I would only use the JAE hoses for coolant.

Samco has good rep for hoses but please note I was referring to COUNTERFEIT Samco hoses.

Samco doesn’t make Esprit hose kits ( none on their web site). Samco said the pictures I sent had questionable markings and their kits have serial numbers molded in car- specific kits. They said Samco does make generic shapes without serial numbers so best way to insure quality is to buy from reputable dealer.
