Curious what you had Swain do for your bearings? Doesn't change clearances appreciably?

Swain Tech puts on a slick teflon-like coating they identify as "PPM". It adds about .0001 to the surface. I've used it on piston skirts and am very pleased with the results.

Hey Tom,

I have an old bottle of Slick 50 that you can have. It will save you money, LOL.

Progress continues. Cams reassembled, new seals, float checked, everything cleaned and smothered in assembly lube. Tomorrow the valves get shimmed and the cams bolted down. Definitely seeing light at the end of the tunnel....

Valves shimmed. Ready to install the belt tomorrow and then begin bolting on the remaining stuff. Hopefully I'll have the engine back in sometimes next week.

Cool Engines for the ages...

Your photos (and Travis') have been a big help to illustrate where all of the ancillary parts fit.

Forgive me, but...the Esprit inline four is one of the strangest looking engines I have ever seen.

But then again, I thought my Spyder's engine was strange.

Put the tranny and engine back together today and finished a little prep work in the engine bay. Will be giving Chris O'Kelly a call this week to get him over to be my second set of hands to put the car and engine back together. Hope to be driving it home before the week is up.

More hooking things up - halfshafts are done, coils, plug wires, down pipe and new O2 sensor, slave cylinder, etc. I also installed my remote oil filter set-up today. Since I was replacing the old oil cooler and oil cooler lines with new lines fabricated with stuff from BAT I decided to go with a remote filter. No more horizontal oil filter and consequent leaking all over the engine every filter change. Plus the new set-up uses an HP4 size filter, so a little more filtration and a little more oil in the system. Thank you Sanj for providing all the info on the fittings and hardware .

Tomorrow all the wiring harness goes back to work and the shifter cables get attached and adjusted and exhaust system re-attached. I'm thinking start-up for the engine is likely Thursday.

Almost there! Need to hook up the shifter cables, put the exhaust back on, put the boot back in and she is ready to start. I pressure tested the cooling system and it passed with flying colors. Hopefully I'll be driving the Lotus home tomorrow 😉

Well, it's ready to start. Finished everything off today. Since the battery has sat idle for a couple of months I have it on the smart charger and the plan is to start the engine tomorrow morning. Used the Airlift to fill the coolant system and noticed I had a little oil drip because I failed to snug down the exhaust cam valve cover. I used a hand pump to fill the engine with oil because I wanted to be certain the new oil cooler and lines were filled. It created enough pressure to drive oil through the engine and up to the cam towers. After sitting over night some oil was seeping out of the valve cover seam.

I will shoot a little video of the start up and post it.
