v8 alternator swap

i am adding extra load to my car and i remember that there was a nearly bolt on upgrade off a Caddy - can't remember which one - I believe it was a Bosch unit - can anybody let me know the origins and then i can look up the part and specs - have a larger unit that will put out a whopping amount of power - but have to mod the housing so if there ever a failure it could be a issue

Thanks

While the Cadillac Catera alternator has more output, the conversion is not so much to increase the output as it is to gain reliability and easy availability (and save a little money). If you are significantly increasing the load on your electrical system you must also consider the wiring, the battery, over-current protection, and other things besides just putting a bigger alternator on. While you won't have to modify the car to use the Catera alternator, I wouldn't call it a bolt-on installation. You need to modify the alternator a bit and to get it into position you need to lift the motor.
