What did you do for your Esprit today?

When I had my 1989 Porsche 928 S4, I frequened rennlist which has a thread which has been ongoing for years so thought why not here?

Basically you just post what you did for your Esprit Today (or recently).. it was fun and brought up lots of stuff in a single thread...

I'll start it off.. it it takes off fine, if not mods can of course delete or it will diie it's own death..

--------------------------

Picked up mine from Sports Car World in DFW after having new right rear wheel bearing installed, compression and leak down test and check out AC...

This weekend put some heat reflective material on bottom and side of chargecooler along with wrap for water hose.

I have spent the Whole day taking the front tray apart, rusty bolts that broke, and now, I am changing and cleaning the coolingsystem, then I flush it several times with fresh demineralized water. In a couple of hours, I'll be pouring fresh Castrol Radicool SF into the system together with demineralized Water, 50%/50%.

Cheers,
Redfox.

First layer of clear coat on my carbon splitter last night. I'll be cutting a thin rubber spacer between the splitter and bumper today.

I kept my Esprit away from the Road Salt.

<SIGH> I wish it would warm up and RAIN around here, to clean off the roads.

On my list for the Winter: SS brake lines, renew the padding in the center console.

Today was a busy day! I pulled the old clear bra off the front of the new V8 and polished it out so I can have a new one installed! I finished putting new decals in the freshly repainted Brembos, got my Futuras back from the tire shop with all new rubber mounted and balanced, and finally got one of my timing belts aligned properly and installed. I will finish installing the other belt hopefully Wednesday then I can set the tension.... Once that is done, I can put the covers, power steering pump and new accessory belt on and finally enjoy the new ride!

The roads around Mechanicsburg Pa were dry this weekend so I drove my Esprit after I had waxed it a month ago and covered it. I hit no running water or puddles at all, a successful 20 miles lol. I was waiting for someone to use their wiper fluid in front of me though. I wanted to get it out and get the fluids moving and tires rolling a bit. It looks like it never left my garage.

went to my friends car storage warehouse this weekend. Got to burrow his lift, change the oil and replace the alternator on the esprit. Went with the catera one. It was a pretty easy job, just had to grind down part of the shim for the top and remove that vent tube. Didnt get to do the transaxle fluid - didnt have the right sockets. Also got to go for a ride in his new toy....

Weather was awesome here in Virginia Beach yesterday, spent most of the day working on my brake conversion, installed new braided hoses from SJ Sports cars. I pulled the front calipers and rotors in preparation for next weekend.

...Really wanted to go for a drive, my car has been off the road since October.

As part of my Timing Belt Service/Engine Beautification work (that has extended to over a year off the road so far) I replaced all vacuum lines with silicone ones, cleaned the block underneath the intake manifold, chased all intake manifold stud threads, reinstalled the chrome powdercoated instake, throttle bodies and Ferrari red crackle back plate, fabbed new hoses for my new bosch 010 chargecooler pump and connected the under intake manifold coolant hose and connected all harness connections.

Resurrection should occur next week with:

Install Ferrari red crackle powdercoated plenum and secondary injection nozzle
Install Ferrari red crackle powdercoated chargecooler
Connect chargecooler ground and harness connector
Install (2) replacement silicone hoses at radiator
Change oil
Flush and change all coolant.
Buy new battery and resurrection.

Work completed so far:
Complete tear down of valve covers/intake assembly
Replaced timing belt with JAE blue belt
Replaced timing belt tensioner bearing
Replaced all belts
Replaced all coolant hoses with silicone ones
Powdercoated chrome intake, throttlebodies, chargecooler brackets and curved coolant pipe above alternator
Polished fuel rail to mirror reflection
Rebuilt Bosch alternator and replaced regulator, paint refresh
Replaced all vacuum lines with black silicone
Poweder coated red Ferrari crackle valve covers, instake plenum, secondary injector nozzle and chargcooler - polished all bare metal on cooling fins and lotus/turbo letters.
Replaced all gaskets for parts removed including injection seals
Ported plenum backplate and took A LOT off of secondary injection nozzle opening and exit, chamfered all openings including within chargecooler. Cut gaskets to match.

All this was brought on by that crappy orange paint flaking off the chargecooler/valve covers after a degrease.

And next is black carpet to replace puke beige carpet, replace all gray fabric head liner parts with matching magnolia leather parts AND retrofit of 2000 V8 brake booster and abs unit (have sourced all parts...just need to fab a few brake lines and hook up a vacuum pump/reservoir.

Rub it in Noob! Lol! Soon man, soon! I am done doing the timing belts, now reassembling the rest of the stuff, I discovered that my serpentine belt tensioner is broken, so a few more days waiting for a new part before I can finally enjoy this beauty!!

1. Washed and detailed it

2. Fixed a sticking headlight switch and added Stabil 360, a fuel additive that releases a revolutionary vapor that rises above the fuel line protecting the entire fuel system from corrosion caused by ethanol blended fuel and believe me, we Esprit owners need all the help we can get on this issue.

3. Drove to the local shops to pick up my wife's dry cleaning, then went for a 30 minute spirited drive along the back roads.

Installed the fittings on the water cooled wastegate. Cut the tank and fitted the flange I made last night. Drilled the AN fittings to welded into the new header tank. Took a pattern for the engine damper mount to Henry my welder to plasma cut and bend.

Looking good! You have reengineered the entire car! There is a lot to reengineer on these cars! Can't wait to see the finished product!

I decided to work on my tensioner myself and see if I could get it working correctly. I managed to get it located properly on the block and installed the serpentine belt. Double checked everything and installed my new spark plugs, and fired the beast up after the timing belt change. So glorious to hear her fire up and run smoothly after all of that work! I am waiting for the some marker lights to return from the tint shop and then I can get her on the road!!!
