An Elan is never going to handle as well on a 70% profile tyre as they do on a proper period 155R13 (and 165HR13 for the +2) such as the Michelin XAS, which are currently by far the best.
However lots of people have changed wheels which means that the correct tyres may be uncomfortable on a wider rim. So if you are in a situation where you need to run a wider tyre, there is no doubt that the Pirelli Cinturato CN36 are by far the best 70 profile tyres for a cars like the Elan. The handling is compromised by the over sized tyre, however the derogatory effects are minimized because, the CN36 has carcass design that was developed in 1968 to compliment cars just like the Elan. Its all in the rounded shoulders of the carcass.
Do any of you guys fit 145R13 tyres?
