early Plus 2 consols

I had an early Plus 2 until when my mechanic was fitting new cams. It caught fire and was totally destroyed. Well, the exhaust manifold is still OK. The photos are not pretty.
Anyway, having had it for 39 years I found I could not do without one. I purchased an identical car which had been dismantled. I have been working on it for about a year and it is now almost back together and as new. But I have searched in vain for an original centre console. They were made from something called Royalite, a type of plastic, moulded with an imprinted pattern. They certainly did not stand the test of time! I think Mr. Filicicchia produced replacements for some elans and did it very well, but I believe not for the early Plus 2. It is easy enough to form an aluminium replacement but my 'new' car deserves a console identical to the original. Does anyone have any suggestions? Regards, Bill

Bill, there was a recent thread on lotuselan.net where a forum member had made a pretty nice replacement. He used UPVC, a material I was not familiar with...

Elan +2 console : Body / Chassis / Frame by LotusElan.net

The original console is otherwise unobtainable. However, I see Frank is planning to make them and looking for interest. Just saw this thread today as have been away from things Lotus for a few weeks....

+2 "early" console Frank : Plus 2 Discussions by LotusElan.net

Plus 2 Center Console : Parts for Sale by LotusElan.net

As you mention, the other popular solution seems to be to make an upholstered version similar to the later cars. This is what Spyder does with their Zetecís.

Thanks, Stu.
I am trying to get in touch with Frank and have attempted to send him a private message.
Hopefully he will contact me. Your surname reminds me that the Masters has just been on somewhere near where he is!!
Perhaps he is a golfer?
