Front of car power source - laser jammers

Hello everyone, I’m exploring options to install “wireless” laser jammers at the front of my S1 Evora. There is a particular product from Escort which is regarded as good, but it’s a very simple install in normal cars as you don’t need to pass anything through the firewall. I do however need a power source that’s only on when the ignition is on.
Any thoughts welcome on where I can easily get power at the front.

If this becomes too problematic, I’ll probably have to have something else professionally installed (a product from ALP would be my choice). Thanks

There is a fuse box under dash on passenger side. On Exige, wires or studs or ? in front of windshield.

Don't know what car you have, do we?

It’s an S1 Evora... looking to tap into a power source without crossing the firewall.

There's a few ignition-switched circuits in the front of the car. How much amperage are you looking to pull? I would think those jammers probably aren't too power-hungry.

Unfortunately I’m unable to find the amperage in the manufacturer documentation nor on the product itself.

But as you say, I can’t imagine it needs too much.

The S1's have an accessory outlet under dash at front end of center console, will be at least a 5 amp supply and seeing how your jammer comes with an accessory plug, it should be no problem.

Have a look at the attached, and it may make clearer what I’m trying to do. I don’t want to pass any wires through the firewall, I want to find power in the very front of the car... not in the cabin.

I used to use radar detectors until they started using lasers and instant on radar. A jammer sounds interesting. I’ve been using the Waze map app. I haven’t seen a single cop on the highway or turnpike that wasn’t marked before I got to them. BUT back roads and city roads are another story.

Front market light should work. Can tap into + and -. Accessible when removing front fender liner.

I have noticed, over the last 25 years, much less traffic enforcement on highways in Mass. I like to joke that my gray hair keeps me from getting tickets[knock wood, I have not has a moving violation in over 20 years], but the truth is more complex

If I am cruising along the highway and find my self out alone with no traffic around, the hair on my arms stands up. I prefer to drive within traffic, faster perhaps than the traffic, but with 'blockers'

State police will frequently run 10-15 mph over the limit and watch for anyone they are not gaining on, so as much as I watch ahead, I watch behind.

The vast majority of my driving is done on roads I travel daily, this I know where the speed traps are, if they are, and make sure I am not out ahead where there might be

Lotus' are small in size and radar cross section. If you are driving next to a 73 Impala, you are invisible to conventional radar. Lotus' also have little vertical surface, and I am lucky enough to not have a front license plate.


All this is to say that I don't have a radar detector, and that behavior is much more a factor in traffic tickets than actual driving speed.

I occasionally ponder getting a radar/laser detector, but in the past I found false alarms more annoying than anything[and years ago I actually worked for Whistler]


Owning a jammer? Nah. Would only prevent a fraction of potential tickets, and most of the behavior mods would solve all of them.

And I have put around 80k miles on primarily RED Lotus' in the last 20 years.........

Thanks for everyone’s input here.

Success.

I bought the Escort Max 360c Radar and hard wired into the fuse box, using a mini fuse add a circuit, pigging backing off the rear 12v cig lighter. Used a trim tool to carefully put the wire under the inside window surround. OEM finish.

To install the jammers, I removed the drivers front wheel and the fender liner. Mounted jammers to front of the grill using 3m tape and used a coat hanger with wire attached to to feed the jammer cables through the hole that’s already there for the tow hook. The wires appeared on the other side in that wheel arch. Secured the “modules” with zip ties, wired it up and found power using a splice off the harness to headlights (red&black wire). Black on the chassis. More zip ties to secure everything and put back liner and wheel. Powers on with the ignition.

All in all not difficult and if you take your time about 2hrs.

The radar is about $500-$650 (eBay used to new price) and the jammers $450-$850 (eBay used to new price).

There are many interesting videos from Vortex radar about how to use these tools responsibly. And tbh, I think all in all this will actually make me much more aware of my speed with the various alerts.
