Lotus Race Engines

As many know, we pioneered the use of Nikasil for our little 2ZZ-GE engines.

Nikasil is the same cylinder plating that most all ALMS cars use, along with several high end OEMs including Porsche TTs, Ferrari's, etc... We strip the block down to bare aluminum iside and out. We then replace the MMC plating in the block with stronger Nikasil, which allows the use of high performance forged pistons, while retaining OE cylinder strength and heat dissipating qualities that are otherwise sacrificed with iron sleeves (like Darton). This technology for the 2ZZ is exclusively available from BOE.

We also have custom pistons made by Arias, who is an industry leader in customer pistons. We stock these pistons in 9:1, 10.5:1, and stock compression=11.5:1. The pistons have many features that you won't find in Mahle's, Wiseco's, etc including, extra pin oiling, custom skirt and piston top, ceramic tops, Moly coated skirts, ultra strong ring lands, and are light weight.

Our engine components are available separately or assembled, complete with blue print and Calico coated ACL bearings. Kris, at DRS is an endorsed dealer and installer for our engine components. He's a top notch race-car builder.

Pricing and more information is available on our website.

What Phil did not say clearly is the Nikasil (or equivalent stuff) is harder than Iron for less wear. The honing requires special tooling since the material is so hard. For high power application and high cylinder side load, it is better than iron.

Excellent point, Marc... I read an article in Racecar Engineering some months ago about an ALMS Porsche V8 in a prototype car that had iron sleeves. The builders actually added Nikasil plating to the iron sleeves to make them more durable and provide better lubrication to the piston.

Best,

Phil

Garage
I got the Nakasil block from BOE but a different shop did the build. They forgot to check the blower. Junk came back down and broke stuff. The Block however did not need replacing because of the Nakasil. An added benefit....

Have you looked into doing this coating for the 2GR-FE?
