I love how he has the video camera facing backwards... He KNOWS the Tesla is going to own the Viper (and many others, I am sure).

That would be pretty intimidating to stage next to a car and see the camera pointing backwards.

We reserved a 40kwh, and it looks like they're cancelling production of that battery. Instead, we get a free upgrade to a 60kwh battery that will be software limited (but we can unlock in the future for a fee).

Quote:
Tesla announced some very exciting news today and we want to make sure you are aware of the updates being made to your Model S order and a few options that are now available.

You may have seen our press release today that announced the small battery option for the Model S will not enter production, due to lack of demand. Only four percent of customers chose the 40 kWh battery pack, which is not enough to justify production of that version.

Customers who ordered the small battery option will instead receive the 60 kWh pack, but range will be software limited to 40 kWh. It will still have the improved acceleration and top speed of the bigger pack, so will be a better product than you originally ordered, and can be upgraded to the range of the 60 kWh pack upon request by you or a future owner.

Your current Model S order will now be automatically updated to include the software limited 60 kWh battery. If you would like to upgrade to full 60 kWh range now, before your car goes into production, you can do so for $10,000. If you choose not to upgrade now, you have the option to upgrade to full 60 kWh range at a later date for $11,000.

If you choose to upgrade your battery, you can then also purchase the Supercharger upgrade and receive unlimited, free long distance travel for life. Supercharging can be added before production for $2,000, or at a later date for $2,500.

We have one other piece of good news to share, your car will be produced sooner as a result of this change. Therefore, it is important that we know right away if you would like to upgrade your battery to full 60 kWh range and add Supercharging. We are available to upgrade your order or answer any questions you have at 888.771.2505 (select option 1).

Drives a Prius (clearly knows nothing about cars).

yep, they are selling a lot of those. I'd get one too if I wanted to spend 60k on a car. Though I'd have to get the Perf model @ 100k.

A friend of mine is taking delivery in the next couple of weeks. I'm looking forward to riding in it. I've driven the Tesla Roadster, and am interested in seeing how one that's designed from the ground up is.

I'm not a big fan of either car, but the drag video just didn't seem right. So, according to World Car Forum, the Tesla's times were: 0-60 in 3.9, 1/4 mile in 12.731 at 110.84 mph.

According to Wiki, that does beat any Viper. Any Viper that is, that was manufactured before 1996. Still impressive for sure, but the context helps.

1992-1995 0-60 4.6 1/4 in 12.9 at 113.8
1996-2002 0-60 4.0 1/4 in 12.2 at 119
2003-2006 0-60 3.9 (roadster) 1/4 in 11.77 at 123.68
2008-2010 0-60 3.4 1/4 in 10.92 at 127.79
2012- 0-60 3.1 (estimate in MT, which is always optimistic)

I'll get the pic off my wife's phone, but was driving to family in Michigan last week. About an hour south of Ann Arbor, I we were behind a car carrier with 8, count 'em, 8 Tesla S on it. What was interesting is that not one of them had any sort of protection that you see on carriers with Honda Fits. You know, that white vinyl covering the protects the paint/body panels. Just wide open and ready to be dinged with tons of highway rocks.

Oh, and we did see a Saffron Yellow Elise (soft top on) heading the opposite way on 94. A rare siting in 'Proud To Be UAW' Michigan!

There are quite a few of them around here actually. I see them quite often, as well as fiskers.

I really like the model S! If I could afford one and charging was as quick as filling a gas tank throughout the entire country, I wouldn't hesitate in buying one!

Charging will likely never be as fast as filling a gastank. If you do the math, you'll find that the cables needed to transfer the kind of power you're talking about is likely going to be equivalent to the high-tension cables used for mass power transmission (a back-of-the-envelope figure is in excess of 100,000W - I don't have the exact number anymore because I did it a while ago and can't find it any more). The ultimate eventuality is that gas will at some point in the future become so expensive that people migrate to other forms of energy for transportation simply because they cannot afford to do otherwise.
