Question Izusu Impulse RS

Anyone ever own one? 2700 lbs, AWD, less than 1000 made. Suspension tuned by lotus. Very hard to find, but they are cheap if you can locate one. Looks like a fun project car.

More or less the same engine as the Lotus Elan M100. And turbo'd cars are easy to squeeze a few more HP out of.

Yep.

I saw an Isuzu I-Mark in relatively good condition just sitting there rotting away...

AG,
Why not get the elan instead. Same engine and likely to be better cared for. Rare but sometimes cheap on fleabay.

Way OT we have an altima hybrid in the family as a daily driver. About the same hp as my elise. The low end torque is amazing. Its like the hybrid has a turbocharger like effect on the 4 cyl (steering sucks but handling quite good for a family car). I have wondered, knowing little about cars (except that elise rocks) about whether it would be possible to put an altima hybrid engine and cvt into an elan.

I didn't have an impulse but did own two Stylus's. Same thing but + 2 doors and no awd, both were fun, great cars and I'd pick up another Stylus / Impluls in a heartbeat.

I got one, 1991..

Great car but same price as Eangle Talon so they lost a lot of market because of that...

I went 10-12 time at the garage because of some electrical problems...

You can see the picture on my facebook...

and.. yes I build the spoiler myself..

Had one for 4 yrs. Could handle circles around the Mitsu eclipse, talon, Laser etc. Motor was used in the Elan and was tough as nails. I beat on that car ruthlessly. I went 130 and i could prove it!! Awesome snow car!! We affectionately called it the brick for its "FIRM" ride!

I had 2 of these.

The Lotus tuned suspension was availlable on the I-mark, JR Impulse, Stylus and standard on the JI Impulse (90-92 XS/RS).

It was also standard on the 93 Asuna Sunfire (a rebadged Impulse sold in Canada).

I had about 20 of these Isuzus/Asunas, I still have a rare 92 Stylus RS.

My former 1993 Asuna Sunfire:

I almost bought one back in 93 (Asuna sunfire).
One paper it seamed like a deal for the price at the time ( about 14,500 canadian$).
Light, fast, sleek looking and aparently best handling you could find for under 35,000$
Finaly went for my first used Scirocco 16V wich is still in a barn just beside my Elise.
Only problem with these cars, they seamed to be bio-degradable, at least on the canadian salty roads. I tried to find one 2 or 3 years later, could not find one without holes around the wheel arches. As a matter of fact by 2000 you'd see more Scirocco left on the roads then these.
Thats when I decided to go with my first used Jetta VR6......

I owned one of these from new, and kept it for 7 years. The only real issues were the cam sensor being changed twice, and the rear wheel arches rusting out after about 4 years (repaired under warranty). I never had any electrical issues. Eventually, the turbo wastegate gave out, and by that time I was ready for something else and sold the car. It had 185,000 km on it when sold, and survived 7 harsh Canadian winters. It had great handling, adequate acceleration, great seats (I think they had Recaros from the factory), and much more storage room than my 08 Exige.

I remember a buddy having the Impulse with the "Tuned by Lotus" badge. Looked cool. I like the little half slit headlight styling of the cars. It drove well, but then again, back in the day, like I knew any better.

I just realized yesterday that the Impulse headlights were stolen from an old Lamborghini.

Even the hood mounted NACA duct is a bit "familiar":

Just moved to Phoenix, anyone else here?

Garage
No connection to me - just saw on Craigslist and posting info if someone interested.

1988 Isuzu Impulse (Handling by Lotus) with only ~3700 miles 'garage find' $6250 (Santee, California)

1988 Isuzu Impulse/Pazza for Sale

For Sale. 1988 Isuzu Impulse (Outside of US it is known as Piazza). Excellent condition. Very low miles-3750 total miles. Inherited car from neighbor who kept it garaged for almost entire life. Southern California car-no rust. Lotus handling, Italian designed, Japanese built. Almost 100% original, including tires, spark plugs, etc. Has dealer temporary registration still in window. Looks like new. Only deficiency is a small hole in the last part of the exhaust system. Only a few hundred registered on the road as of 2010 ("Registered Impulses as of 2010". Isuzone.org. July 2011. Retrieved 2011-08-11.). Own a piece of history. Doubt you will find any that are nicer.

$6250
