Finally!!! Ultra-Light 6UL in Lotus-Specific sizes from Blackwatch Racing!

Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 949 Racing 6UL Wheels in Elise and Exige fitment. Exclusively from Blackwatch Racing! Blackwatch is the exclusive dealer for Lotus.

We've been speaking off and on for several years with the 949 Racing guys. We've admired their attractive and light wheels for years. It is really expensive to develop a custom wheel.

The skinny: Lotus 111 platform - Elise/Exige specific design. The 6UL 111 wheelset is the lightest matched monoblock wheelset in the world. Because of the wide front caliper profile, an entirely new casting tool was developed for the front wheel. 15"x8" front is only 12.6lbs front and only the super wide 17x9" rear is only 15.8lbs! For any Lotus wheel that is light. For WIDE wheels it is crazy light. They are low-pressure cast and flow formed to really keep the weight down. Additionally they are FEA analyzed and JWL certified which is a tougher version of DOT standards in Japan.

We determined custom offsets for both front and rear for clearance while preserving the motion ratio and thus roll couple bias of the 111 chassis. We can now run 1.5" wider wheels front and rear that look great, fit well, and add tons of grip.

The 6UL Wheels from 949Racing have been on championship winning cars in the Miata world for years. They feature dual valve stems so you can do a nitrogen purge without special equipment. There will be lotus specific hub-centric rings available if you want them. They are completely unnecessary, but I realize some folks will want them anyway.

These amazing wheels are available only in matched sets in the awesome Beryllium color. We have a limited number so put your deposit in today to save your set or sets. We expect delivery by mid-May.

Here's the best part: We're going to kick it off with an introductory pre-order!

This is our favorite wheel and tire combination we've been using for years with our custom 3 piece wheels for years. The stock 16" front has terrible tire selection. The 15" front is lighter, provides better geometry, and far more performance tire options.

NASA and SCCA have ignited a tire war in the "Super 200" tires. These are 200 treadwear tires required by these sanctioning bodies for street tires. The result is a large selection of super fast Street/Track performance tires that wear really well. These tires are FASTER and wear far better than 60 treadwear Yokohama a048s that came on the Lotus with the sportpack(LSS).

For front 225/45R15 adds a ton of front tire while dropping the front a few millimeters for better turn in. The rear either 245 or 255/40R17. 9" meats on the back of the car looks fantastic and sticks like crazy. We currently run 225/255 Hankook RS-4, which is only a $600 set of tires that are great on the street or track. Bridgestone RE-71R, BFG Rival S, Hankook, and Continental all great options.

Jealousy and Love all at one time...

Love as they are definitely by far one of the best wheel choices I have ever seen in our cars.

Jealousy as I don't have the funds for a set yet.

Maybe I'm missing it, what is the cost for the GB? I didn't see these on the website either.

@fzust Are these different than the 949 6UL wheels released around 7/17 with the 28 offset?

I've got a trailer and set of wheels on my shopping list for this summer. The 949 6UL are at the top, so a group buy is very exciting.

Yes, these are different tool and offset to fit the lotus.

Here's what they look like on my car. These are awesome wheels. Super lightweight, wider than anything else available anwhere near that weight or price, and proven reliable on track (spec miata, honda guys run them all the time). I'm glad 949 found a good partner in the Lotus community to make this happen.

DISCLAIMER: these are actually miata fitment versions I've been running for the past 1.5years w custom spacers, but effectively the same. Except the new Elige fitment ones wont come in this color it seems

The miata versions are around 229 for the rear (each) and around 170 (each) for fronts. These are new tooling so may be a bit more would be my guess, but that should give you a ballpark.

I know you're a racer guy, but if you could get these in 17x8 +25 for the front, then you could sell these sets to the fitment crew as well.

Yeah, tool development isn't free, in fact it is damned expensive. We don't do anywhere near the volumes of Miatas, so the price is definitely higher. THAT SAID. When you compare to what is out there, the weight, and bespoke fitment, I think we're going to be offering a killer deal regardless of the groupbuy. My $0.02

Yeah, the trick is that the front brakes on the Elise require ALOT of brake clearance, hence the need for a special tool. I might test fit some 17x8 stuff and look at a custom spacer down the road. What tire do you use on that since it is gonna be a TALL setup?

Despite being a racer, I like stuff to look good! If you've met my wife you would understand!

215/40 is perfect for an 8" wheel, but 205/45 works fantastic as well, no issues with either (I tested them both).

You can see my 215/40/17 front fitment in the album below.

BWR was a natural fit for the introduction of this new fitment. We're excited to have these finally get onto cars, covered in brake dust and tire clag.
This first batch is small so pre-order from BWR now if you want a set.
