I suggest taking a browse over at The Garage Journal Board - Powered by vBulletin . There are a large amount of threads regarding space and installation requirements.

Not sure if you are asking the good and the bad of having a lift or ceiling height needed. Measure the height of the two cars plus six inches and you will be good. Take into consideration for the opener and garage door. I would recommend a side mounted roll up type opener then you don't have to deal with the overhead opener or an extra dummy panel on the garage door.
