From a 2005 s2000 to a 2005 Elise

Hey guys , My name is Ahad and I recently acquired a lotus Elise for a pretty good deal. I live in Ohio (if any of you guys are here in Ohio too please introduce yourselves!)
Little history about me
My first car was sort of an unusual choice being a Mercedes c230 coupe supercharged (hatchback) kind of rare but boring car haha. I then moved onto a rio yellow s2000 which I owned for about two years.
After deciding for an upgrade the Elise just happened to fulfill all my requirements. Its been about 2 months since owning it and its sitting at about 99k miles (pretty high !) I don't know how long these engines last but ill take good care of it haha. I make you-tube videos and most of them are going to be about the lotus so I welcome you to join me and give any suggestions you can. By the way I do plan on getting a full color change but cannot decide on which shade of red , so if any one could input some ideas that would be great. P.s I paid 23k for the Elise , in yalls opinion is that too high ? or a good deal?

Cheers!

Welcome aboard!

Wanting to hear your comparisons between the Honda and The Elise.

As far as a color, these cars do very well sporting skittles colors. You can get away with some pretty radical hues and still come over as reasonable sane. Go for something not available as a standard Lotus color.

Anyone can make something complicated. It takes genius to make it simple. Einstein.

You did fine

Hey, its a Toyota motor, when it wears out, get another one!

As an owner of an Ardent Red Exige, I like that factory red, more depth than a lot of reds

As for color changes in general, think long and hard, it is hard to do right.

Plus, I got a good deal on my Exige, but would not have picked red myself. There are days a year in where having a less bright color would be nice

I would guess Evora 410 or wait for the v6 Exige. Both cars are in a whole different league with the v6 power.

Welcome! And please don't change the color, graphite gray is awesome!

If you have questions about racing your car, feel free to ask them in the open forum. However, if you want to do anything OTHER than race your car you'll get stoned for posting about it. PM me if you have any questions about such things.

Lots of good advice here on Lotus ownership, I suggest you read the last 15 "Hey, I'm new here" posts, as it's all been said before.

I had a '04 S2000 that I tracked religiously, when I rented an Exige S240 to take around the 'ring for six laps. So, I was able to have a relatively direct comparison.

My impressions:
- S2000 has one of, if not, the best shifter in the world. The Exige, although a bit worn from being a rental, was not nearly as precise. But, it's hard to get a cable driven gearbox to feel as good as a near-direct shift box -- shifter in the S2000 sits at the tail end of the gearbox.

- S2000 has more corner entry front end grip. This is a given, as the S2000 is front, mid engined and 50/50 split for weight.

- Brakes are about the same between the two. Exige felt more confident under braking -- while the S2000 could be trail braked further into a corner without making a scene

- Driving the S2000 is an incredibly gifted and fun car to just drive hard. The Exige is a incredibly precise, visceral experience, but there's a sense of seriousness to the car that the S2000 seems to lack. The Exige is business casual if you worked at a gym, the S2000 is hawaiian shirt fridays.

- Both are incredible cars that every person should own, at least once.

Awesome. If there is anything I can do to help you out, just let me know. And if you ever make your way over to Columbus for a Cars and Coffee or something give me a heads up. Would love to see the car.

Here's some pictures of mine ('08 S240)

Welcome Ahad.... Your story sounds oddly similar to mine. I, too, came from an s2000 and coincidentally enough I also bought a graphite grey 05 Elise. Definitely enjoy and be safe. As far as high mileage, who cares it's a toyota anyways lol.

Just a thought. Why not just get a wrap on it the color you like. If the paint is still in good shape it will keep the value of the car higher when you decide to upgrade to a new toy. It may save you a few bucks and you can go wild with the color if you like.
