2014 F1

We must pray for Lotus F1 Team, while a great performance in 2013 (really the only team that could even challenge RedBull and Vettel) they seem to be entering 2014 with no money, only one great driver (wouldn't have said that a year ago for RG, but he truely has stepped up to the plate) and do they even have a car? Yesterday the team acknowledged that they would skip the 1st official car tests to be held later this month, instead “we’re going to keep our car under wraps a little longer than some other teams”. What do they have to hide about the E22? That it is still a virtual car, I hope not .. like their investor turned out to be.

they have shown images on facebook of the chassis being constructed. apparently they have passed all initial FIA safety tests and only have the complete nose cone test left.

A few of us have been discussing this in lieu of the news about missing the first test...my hope is that realistically they are running a bit behind, and instead of putting a compromised car on the test, they are going to skip the test and take their time while also gaining some insight from the other teams solutions, because as has been acknowledged by all teams this years cars are going to have widely varying solutions to the new rules and problems since no one has dealt wiht them before.

Finances are clearly a problem. One driver is very talented with loads of potential and hopefully doesn't get lured away next year. The other is simply a checkbook and useless weight. I can't imagine him doing much for team points, let alone driver points.

Keeping my fingers crossed, but I have faith...

you never miss an opportunity test - even if the car isn't fully baked - there should be something on the car to test!

so i guess that middle east money never happened? Kimi is looking like the smart man right now.

no word on naming the team - they have been running with "lotus f1" so far this off season. i suspect that was up for a vote with F1 once the quantum money came in - but as that been delayed months... they might run out of time to rename, and that may affect quantum decision as well... just speculation really?! but id imagine the quantum money (if its as much as everyone was saying) would involve a name change to their benefit.

Even team admits, quantum money is improbable, if lotus changes name they loose points position and season payouts is based on a composite of current and pad seasons. 5th and 4th is too good to give up. Yes, Kimi must have read the tea leaves.

EB was quoted in a few interviews today saying that he knows for a fact other teams will be missing the first test as well. Also, I read on another forum that even the nose crash test has been done. Lotus is even tweeting pics of the chassis mold to essentially dispel rumors that nothing is happening as far as car building/development. I think, the delay really just is them behind schedule and figuring they might be able to see/steal something from the other cars that are rolled out.

more like guidelines anyways... no, the teams can vote and this has been done before with no loss of commercial rights money to name changes. especially since the troll hate(d) lotus (danny) and wanted the name off the car - it was meant to happen, but never did.

sounds like EB was not paid either, otherwise he should have sat out 1/2 year before moving on. reading between the lines... i wouldn't be surprise me if they "don't make 107% rule" at a race or two because they can't afford to race.... wouldn't be amazed if they don't survive the season.... this is really ugly news. who is left there? Lopez can't run it. he knows nothing about F1. ....and clearly they can't hire anyone good.

I don't think it's quite as gloomy as some think. It sounds like this season is secure, from a budget perspective (albeit smaller than last year) if you read everything that is out there. As far as EB, I think he just finally broke down like so many others and decided to take the bigger pay check.

Everyone needs to realize it's not so much that those left aren't getting paid, as much as it is that they aren't getting paid what others are offering. I'm sure EB got an offer he couldn't refuse from Mclaren and finally broke down. Hopefully, the remaining key people can be retained (like Nick Chester, Permane, etc.). I'm still hoping for the best this season.

Should be interesting. If they do fold, that puts RoGro on the market who developed amazingly well late last season. I am quite sure other teams will find a home for him if he comes available. However the best news of the silly season.... Kamui!!!!!

More than personal pay, EB probably saw the writing on the wall that the team is underfunded and behind schedule. As to Grojean future, remember EB is his agent/manager.

How can the team have money?, 114 in debt last yr, Genii will write of some 80 m loan as marketing, PV brings what 30, so last year paid off. Some news sponsors maybe 10 to 20 each. Genii, say no more funding..... so let's see, no debt great but maybe 40 m to run a team that cost 114 to run last yr. and now all new car and engine.. I love team Lotus but it does not look good at all, no money, no racing leadership,one of key technical talent, and only one driver. Now their us a way to save money.. only race one car, it's the only one that will garish points anyways.
