Unhappy SCCPC11165HL3340 Totaled

Friends,

I'm sorry to report that my 2005 LRG Elise was totaled last week. Another driver turned left in front of me from the opposite direction of traffic leaving me nowhere to go except into the rear of his Mercedes. The front passenger corner of my Elise was destroyed. I survived with only minor injuries; kudos to the Lotus engineers. Here are the details:

VIN: SCCPC11165HL3340
Insurer: USAA
Milage: ~32,000
Total Loss Declared: 30 September 2016
Options: Touring pack, biscuit interior

The good new is that the police correctly reported that the other driver was at fault, and USAA settled for more than what I paid for the car in 2008. Now the search begins for something new. I've enjoyed being part of community of the last 8 years and will continue to pop in on occasion, especially around 2020 if the new Elise is coming to the US. Be on the lookout for a parts for sale post soon as I have a decent supply of Lotus parts, consumables, and memorabilia to sell.

RIP: 2005 Elise, metallic green/biscuit touring

Sorry for your loss. At least you are ok and the insurance company came through.

One less LRG/Biscuit on the road. That's a shame. Sorry to hear about this.

I will be looking for a few things for a 2006 elise.
rear diffuser
stock exhaust
rear mesh panel
right side front oil cooler

and most likely a few other things when I open the clams on this project.

Sorry about your car, USAA has never let me down in the last 30+ years, they're a good company to deal with.

Out of curiosity, if they had found you to be the one at fault and the car is declared totaled, does insurance cover anything at all?

Depends on your coverage options. I believe the "collision" option covers the situation you described, but I'm not an insurance expert.

Sorry to hear that, but glad you are OK. Always sad to hear that there's one less of these wonderful cars on the road. Or do you think it's repairable?

I don't know if there was any frame damage, nor do I know how much frame damage can be safely repaired. I wasn't going to take a chance. I'm also ready to move on to something slightly more practical.

yes...that's what insurance does, assuming he doesn't have "liability only." The difference is he'd be out the deductible and higher rate increases.

Glad you made it out ok. Time for an upgrade!

I wish we knew how many Elises/Exiges have been totaled out completely and taken off the road.

I know, these threads are so depressing! Let's hope that someone like wire wheel buys it at auction and brings it back to life.
