Totaled 05 Elise My Baby!

I have owned a 05 Red Elise since 2011. It was my daily driver and I loved that car. 2 weeks ago I allowed my 28 year old adult son to take it on a date. HE PROMISED he would drive her easy and not show off. While getting on a freeway he lost control and put it head on into a guardrail. The guardrail won. I knew just by looking at it that it was likely totaled. A local body shop agreed after spending 30 hours going over the damage a replacement list of parts. I will know today what they plan to offer me for the value of the ELISE. There is a void in my life and my garage without my Elise.

I have already replaced her. I found a 2008 Exige S240 with 14K miles in California Bay Area. I flew down last Friday and picked her up and drove her back home in Washington State. I was upset about my Elise but this new Exige puts a smile on my face every time I look at her and drive her. NO ONE gets to drive this one. NO ONE!!

Very sorry to hear about the Elise, but at least this one has a happy ending!

Totaled Elise VIN is SCCPC11155HL30114

The body shop removed all the broken pieces. They found no damage to the pan or suspension. The damage was limited to the front clam, both headlights, both indicators, side markers, and the louvers on the clam. I may buy this back as I have found refurb clams and used parts and should be well under 10K to repair.

I think you should make your son rebuild it!

Hi

Nice replacement. sorry about your loss. I have alot of people ask me to drive my Elise and I say no. I try to explain to people that you can not drive this car like other cars. blind spots, low clearance and it is spin happy if driven wrong. it falls on deaf ears unfortunately

My son and his GF were fine. Some bruising from the seat belts. Neither airbag deployed. He said he wasn't going that fast but apparently fast enough to lose control. It was wet out and I had some new Bridgestone Potenza's on it. They had excellent grip and wet or dry conditions. He entered into a cambered corner from the side of the corner. He likely got her slightly airborne as he crossed the edge of the lip of the corner. That pitched the car to the right and once the car hooked up, it shot him right into the guardrail. I have taken that same freeway onramp 100's of times and never once even came close to losing control. I just don't understand but at this point it just doesn't matter. I didn't have to bury my son or see him with missing limbs or brain functions. I got an upgrade that I wanted and everyone is fine.

If you're interested in buying it back and selling the project, let me know. I may know an interested party.

You won't look back now that you have an Exige. There isn't a day that goes by that I miss my Elise. Glad your son and his girlfriend are ok.

How long does your son need to wait before he gets to take out the exige?

Glad to hear you have something else now.

I've let several people drive my car but I've always been the passenger.

Yes, let's be thankful for what's important: humans not hurt.

BTW, did you know that (most) new tires need a break-in period before becoming grippy?

First, it is good to hear no one was hurt.

If you do pursue the buy back, can you post up how much the insurance company wants? This would be useful information for anyone thinking of buying a wrecked eilge at auction or on ebay.

Man you're in a great area of Washington for some amazing drives!!!

Gorgeous replacement...glad to hear all are ok...I must admit, I will still hesitate when my son is at an age when he will be able to drive the car. At the same time I hope to have him on the track with me when he is old enough, and I will let him drive the car there...but I doubt it will ever happen on public roads with him behind the wheel of the car...unless he is in my lap, i.e. now.
