Thumbs up NA Evora HO: Plus a Hundy!

We're having a lot of fun tuning the NA Evora... But with a new twist

Imagine this. Your 235whp stock NA Evora with the right headers, muffler, intake, cams, and tune on a 91 octane tune making 335whp.... That's right. About 100 more to the wheels than stock and about 40 more to the wheels than a stock Evora S...

Are you imagining? Anyway... Carry on

Cheers,

Phil

No big surprise since (but good news) you can get almost what the WC guys are getting on their NA car. Understood, theirs is a 4.0 but should scale accordingly. Guess time will tell if you can make available for sale and if it will scale to the S version also.

Here's some early Dyno footage... Mods are in the video description.... Just about wrapped up tuning this set of cams at this point and then swapping to another set to determine what the motor likes best... Fun stuff!

duncan,
Indeed a little different deal on the GT4 WC cars! Gantry injectors and trumpet intakes, 12:1 compression, 100 octane and so-forth!... This is pretty straight forward setup here with a simple cam and spring swap, headers, muffler, and pretty elaborate tuning... Although speaking of trumpet intakes... Guess what's on my workbench to try after the cam testing

A quick update that I think is good info...

We picked up about 7-9whp by changing cams over the last. Good news is a bit more power up top without a loss down low. Bad news is that overlap of the second set is great enough that I couldn't phase out the idle all the way to what I would call "smooth"... So the bigger cams with slightly more power than the ones in the video up there are probably best left for the track cars.

Great news is that we saw a peak of 347whp on the biggest cams, 339whp the next step down which is a big jump from the 290whp on the stock cams!

We were able to dial in the cam phasing to achieve a near factory idle on the 339whp cams

Also tested the $8,500 Cosworth trumpets you see here.... Long story short, we lost power everywhere below 6800. Given the 7,200 redline, this is a bad thing! lol. This was both surprisingly and not. They were designed for a 4L motor and so it stands to reason the little 3.5L was just too small to utilize the huge trumpets and ports that followed. We plan to try tuning the trumpet setup with inserts made on our 3D printer to see if there may be some hidden potential in an alternate intake.

Suffice to say, the uber ugly stock intake plenum us actually quite functional at producing power.

Put 3D printed sleeves into the trumpets to reduce the diameter and increase air velocity....tricks I did with 500cc 2 stoke bike engines. Don't know if it's comparable but....

Even a few days after this was posted I'm still shocked at such a large improvement on a NA engine.

Why would the original tune/hardware have been so poor? Surely this was not all a compromise for emissions; it really gives the impression of lack of proper effort on Lotus' part. Imagine how much more appealing this car would have been to a buyer who shops based on manufacturer's quoted numbers if it had came with this much power from the factory.

In any case, congrats @turbophil - your testing and engineering is really bringing out the potential in this platform. I can't wait to see more.

100whp is crazy. Do you have the before & after dyno?

** save ~10 lbs gain 1 hp ** EQ: Y=(190*X) / (1984-X) where Y is (HP) and X is (lbs)

Hi Guys I'll Update. We are still working on it, still some work to be done, sourcing and a bit more tuning. We should have parts supply tied down soon and packages ready to go in the first quarter next year.. Just got off the dyno with this. excuse the terrible pics I was in a hurry.
