Important Security Update!

Great News!
We are happy to announce we are improving security across our network and adding Secure Sockets Layer or SSL to the site. This means going forward you'll see Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS); the secure version of HTTP, the protocol used to send data between your browser and the website that you are connected to. This means all communications between your browser and the website will have another layer of encryption. We take the security of your data seriously so updates like this do happen from time to time. There is no downtime or major issues anticipated in this change. If you do notice anything about the site operating not as it should please make sure we are the first to know. You can send a PM to this account with details and we can investigate. Thanks, and if you have any questions about this let me know.

@Administrator - Do you mean https://www.lotustalk.com/ ? There’s nothing at that address right now . . .

@Kubera - No response from @Administrator after two days only asking them to explain their announcement - that’s pretty lame. So what were you thanking them for exactly?

I have zero data here to protect.

Please don’t do anything that makes logging in and using the site and blocking ads more difficult.

I believe the Admin was trying to say they were converting the site to https. This means data sent back and forth between you and LotusTalk would be encrypted so that interlopers would not be able to see the traffic related to your activity on the site (although they'd know what site you were on). Using https for everything is the emerging standard . . . you should want this for your own privacy.

And you do have data to protect . . . everything you say or do can be used against you in some context or another. It's nobody's business and history has shown it's foolish in the extreme to say "...I have nothing to hide ..." There's absolutely no reason to create opportunities for facilitating injury to yourself or those you care about by creating a data trail that can be used against you. I'll say it again, because it is really important . . .

Please educate me. What sort of data trail or such need I worry about anyone else knowing about?

Remember, Iím lucky enough to live in a peaceful place where strangers openly talk to each other. I may have a false sense of the worldís realities.

Decline. You'll need to educate yourself. If you really just have no idea where to start, try here and here. I'll be providing no further comment on your musings regarding this topic since it has veered into something other than a Lotus-centric discussion.

Just a heads up the SSL will be coming shortly. We'll post again when it's live

Glen, the post about introducing HTTPS was just a 'heads up' that it's going to happen soon. We have not added it yet which is why https://www.lotustalk.com/ doesn't work yet. Once it's live, we will update this thread to let everyone know.

With regards to response time, we manage hundreds of forums so, since it often takes awhile to troubleshoot issues and reply to questions, it often takes some time to get to all of the messages in the queue, especially when they come in on or around the weekend since we only have minimal staffing on the weekends. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Cheers,

Erik

Is this the reason that whenever I go to LotusTalk, I'm now automatically directed to the "Full" webpage, instead of the "Classic" interface, which I've always used before and which is more user-friendly on my phone and small tablets? How do I revert back?

Try going into "User CP" and then select "Edit Options". At the bottom, under "Miscellaneous Options" is "Forum Skin", use the pull down to select "LotusTalk.com (Classic)"
