High idle and drop very slowly

Rescently I have trouble with my 2008 S240. We are trying to diagnostic the trouble.

Today, we change the old Cup Air Box + TRD pre-oil filter to a brand new Cup Air box + Lotus Sport filter and change a new MAF.

Right after the change, the car idle at high RPM over 2000 then very slowly drop to around 1000. Every time I press and release the padel, the RPM will hunt around 1500-2500 then very slowly drop to 1000. In cold or warm is then same. So sometime the car will keep on going in 3rd gear without pressing on padel

Any idea?

In my country, many "S" have idle issues... Sometimes is the throttle (drive by wire), sometimes is a leak in air duct (from/to IC), sometimes is ISC valve. First, you could try a TPS reset (sorry, I don't know the procedure), check electrical connections and air duct. Check MAF connections also...

Hope help.

Not yet, because the long holiday.

I want to make sure all my stock setup is A OK, before go on to the Blade300.

The slow drop RPM cause trouble in driving, in 1st 2nd & 3rd gear I don't need to press padel, the car will go by itself @2500-3000 rpm.

What's wrong?

Fixed

Checked again, no code.

Ran to Toyota dealer this afternoon and bought a new MAF, plug it in right at the dealer's shop entry, less than 2 mins. Reset the ECU, it run A OK.

Drive home, feel A OK.

Love and hate for electrical problem, simple but need cash to solve it

Should have better ECU diagnostic program build in.

Not again.....

Change Oil, Clean throttle body, change air filter, then the high idle again.

Will check vaccum leak tomorrow.

Clear MAF, reset ECU throttle position, idle still high and drop very very slowly in both A/C or without A/C.

Change a NIB MAP, still same, but idle drop tiny faster.

Please check this video Lotus Exige idle high drop slow after clean throttle body - YouTube

At the beginning is with A/C on, and at 30sec I turn off the A/C.

You can see every dib, the idle will just hold the idle and take over 5-10 sec to settle down.

And idea?

When it's idling high, if you blip the throttle real quick, does it go back down to normal?

Garage
For what it's worth, my Evora S does the same thing only while in sport mode. Show it to the dealer who said it was normal.

This morning a ex Lotus certified tech drop by my home and tried to help out. The following is what we did:

1. Check out all the vacuum hoses.
2. Disconnect the battery, to re-set the throttle plate.
3. Cold start the engine:
- Right after engine start, I heard loud heas heas sound near the engine front left area. The tech hear it too, can't figure out where it came from.
4. Shut down the engine and restart the engine, the sound gone.
5. Check all the vacuum hoses again.
6. Start the engine, closed out the vacuum line that provide more air when A/C on. No different with open or close the hose.
7. Double check all the hoses again. Nothing wrong.
8. Drive for normal drive 15 min. The problem remain.

The tech suggest to change the Multi Relay Unit under the ECU. He mentioned that unit has effect on ECU control the A/C idle.

Huhhhhh, any comment.

I had a very similar problem after removal of the butterfly unit and cleaning the MAF element.
I drove it for a few days, put maybe 100 miles on it and it s l o w l y went back to a normal operation.
I DID have the battery disconnected for a day so I could open the rear clam.
I have the VF blower set on it so I couldn't easily get into the engine stuff.
Car is normal now.....

Today, I have changed a new MAF, new Multi Control Unit, clean the throttle body again.

But same same, the idle just hang there and drop very slow, some time will bonce back a bit.

Check with Lotus Dealer, they can't do anything with their Techcenter computer, as I have B300.
- Normally Lotus will do a ECU program reload to clear out all the previous setting back to factory default.

Any suggestion, guys?

Tried all things to diagnostic this issue.

Today, I have replace the ECU with my old S260 ECU, no help, idle drops tiny litlle faster but only tinnnny

So I have changed:
1. 2 new MAF, 1 loaned by the shop, 1 I bought in case shop's has problem;
2. Checked all vacuum multi times with different tech and me just in case;
3. Replaced Multi Function Control Unit, just in case;
4. Check all the fuses;
5. Disconnect battery multi times, even did what Charlix suggest shut down the engine without battery connected to force the ECU to reset;
6. Reset ECU by Kold Fire cable;
7. Replace B300 ECU with my old S260 ECU;

Same same. So on Sat I will transplant my friend's hrottle body to see what happen.

At the mean time any suggestion?

HKFever,

Did you catch a video of it? I had a similar issue on one of my R53 Mini Cooper S (supercharged model). Turned out to be a slow boost leak in an I/C hose, just not seated correctly.

I had to correct the leak, then reset the ECU.

Maybe when replacing the throttle body you corrected boost leak somewhere else?
