2005 Elise VIN missing from ECU

Hi everyone,

I have been trying to re-flash my ECU to pass emissions testing in CO, but I just got the dreaded VIN reset issue. Normally I wouldn't care about that, but with my VIN being cleared out I can't use my Kold-fire cable to re-flash the ECU since it's locked to my real VIN. Has anyone successfully been able to recover their VIN after having this issue without having to go back to the dealership (I'm not even sure if there are any Lotus dealerships in the Denver area)?

yes, vin reprogramming is done using an obd command (mode 0x3B, PIDs 0x1 and 0x2):

and a short summary version:

there is a chance that the tactrix cable that you have will work with the java program that i wrote (the Java program can send the obd pids to write the vin).

otherwise you'll have to find a program that works for you and an appropriate obd adapter.

Thank you so much!! It actually worked for me, I was able to get my VIN back in and reprogram the ECU for emissions. I ended up using the Android adapter with the process recommended in that thread and it worked!
