Insurance coverage in New York State

I am looking into possibly buying and Elise and I am calling insurance companies and I am running into a lot of companies unwilling to cover a Lotus Elise. It's either that, or they want $3,500/year to cover the vehicle which I thought was outrageous.

I am 29 with a cell phone ticket on my license, otherwise clean record. I have good credit and I live in upstate NY which I would think is a low risk area as there is not much traffic.

Anyone in New York State have a good insurance company they use for coverage? I really thought I could get a policy for ~$1,500-2,000/year?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am new to the Lotus world. Thanks in advance!

I'm not from New York but, I had no problems when I got my Elise just adding it to my State Farm policy. I don't know the exact amount I pay but, the insurance rate isn't unreasonable (I remember that it was cheaper than my Tesla), but more than my 2004 truck.

Good call on State Farm!! I tried geico, progressive, metlife, allstate and a couple others and they were all insanely high. State Farm was only $1,400 a year.... well.... it feels cheap after my other quotes. Thank you for the help!

I found coverage with Progressive. It was an agreed value policy.

Did you get your insurance yet? Safeco (a division of Liberty Mutual Ins.) insures Lotus cars. WWW.Safeco.com or 1-800-332-3226.
It's a sports car in NYC? You're over age 25. That's in your favor. That all figures in.

I'm with Geico now...don't have the best record. My Nissan Titan with comprehensive only and Elise with Comp and Collision is like 1900 for the year. I think being 30 yrs old is another magic number for lower insurance rates. Also being married now. Boston area.

Haggerty was the best deal for me. It does depend on where you live.

It also depends on whether you are insuring the car as a Collector vehicle (occasional use) or a daily driver.

Condon-Skelly Insurance offers unlimited mileage, named (agreed) value, full coverage policies to Lotus Ltd members (the national Lotus club). I thought their prices were very good, but sadly, another Forum member was declined due to a household member that had tickets.

Knowing that, you can PM me for c-s contact info if you want.

I lived in NY state until the beginning of this year, and was with Geico.

I moved to NJ this year and moved to a collector car insurance that was half price

In California so it might not matter but I just got a quote for 1380 to coverage. That was with a multi car policy but it's probably not your only car
