Please help diagnosing steering squeak in the Elise

Thanks in advance guys!

My Elise has developed an insane steering squeak. It's been happening for a while and I managed to deal with it but now it's become unbearable and I can no longer stand it. Especially when driving home from a long and stressful day at work.

Needless to say, I need to get it fixed. I've tried shooting the suspension bits with silicone lubricant but it hasn't helped. It sounds as if it right near where the steering shaft enters the firewall.

I've tried searching for a diagnosis on LT and other places online but haven't managed to find anything.

Please see the video below and let me know what it could possibly be!

There are two bolts you access through the guage cluster area. Loosen them and see if it goes away. if so tighten them back up properly. If not dissassemble further to get to the 3rd bold and repeat. This is 100% what mine sounded like when i reassembeled it misaligned and one of those bolts was moving a bit

I'm actually 100% certain the noise is coming from the footwell area. I finagled myself into it on my back and almost had a panic attack trying to get out. I turned the wheel then and it is certainly coming from behind the firewall where the shaft enters. I shot that part with the silicon lube excessively and it didn't help. I'm starting to think I may have to take the steering rack out and maybe do a complete replacement.

Sounds like a loose u-joint in the steering. See the following thread.

The noise can still come from down there if the top bolts are misaligned. Its like 15 minutes to check it. Also you cant be sure where the noise is coming from in there.
