Repurposed Distributor caps

I don't know if this is a Captain obvious/already well known thing but I just realised that the light bulb holder - the ones with the main headlight and parking light is a distributor cap. I used to ponder how closely they resembled a distributor cap until today when I realised they really are! When I noticed the groove around the front circumference and the small 3 - 4 MM slot for the dizzy cap to line up in the dizzy body. Both of these things serve no purpose as a light bulb holder so they obviously are dizzy caps. As a plastics toolmaker I know how much an injection mould tool costs to build so I'm not surprised that some bright engineer has thought of a way to reuse this probably obsolete piece of hardware.
I have made a Youtube video - To describe what I am talking about. Can anyone verify this?

Adding to the thread, here is a google image search that comes up with some similarly shaped distributor caps:

I like the theory and I want it to be true because it's funny and creative, however I am not convinced. There are too many modifications to the molds, they would just end up making new molds. The real killer is the holder for the marker light bulb. You even indicated that it doesn't seem to fit the theory.

I would bet that the ring feature isn't to seal it to a distributor housing but more to seal against a different lens shroud and the missing tab isn't to fit the cap to a distributor but actually to help align the light at the factory. I don't know either obviously but my point is that I can come up with other reasons that could also be possible that its not a cap.

But yes I am hoping it is a cap because that is hilarious.
