US Lotus Elise/Exige Production Numbers

*This thread is purely for exchanging information and not for discussion. Clutter replies highly discouraged*

There are many different thread with lots of Certificate of Provenance information spread throughout LotusTalk so I did my best to compile it all into one place. A common problem I came across was people who started threads to track this information commonly go inactive so those threads are not updated. To avoid this, I hope to use Google Docs so anyone can contribute to a living document. This has taken a lot of work and time to put together so the Google Doc will be "view only" until I can find a way to prevent tampering and contributions of misinformation.

The Google Doc is annotated as much as possible to say where numbers come from and any other relevant information. Here are the threads where much of the information was taken:
https://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f3/l...2011-a-146442/
https://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f259...umbers-341426/
https://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f157...umbers-283697/
The comprehensive Exige 260 Registry

Information on how to get a Certificate of Provenance can be found here: Certificate of Provenance | Lotus Cars

ALL ELISE PRODUCTION NUMBERS PER YEAR AND MODLE HAVE BEEN CONFIRMED PERSONALLY BY ANDY GRAHAM AS OF 1/9/17.
Color production numbers are as accurate as possible. Read below sections for more information and explanations.

43 Aspen White 2007 Exige S (4th most popular color choice)

Thanks for putting this into the excel chart - it makes it far more readable!

See below for an excerpt from my letter from Andy (received via email yesterday - waiting on the official paper certificate).
It should help fill in cells A32, C32, and E32 of the Exige Color Count (2007 Exige S) - 4th most popular color choice, and 43 cars in Aspen White. (9.75% of the 441).

You may also want to create a Cup Car table next to the 2007 Exige S - 30 cup cars made, 8 in Aspen White.

An interesting tidbit not included in the excerpt below, in case you'd like to start a new "Interiors" tab is that "Just 26 cars out of 441 [2007 Exige S] had black cloth. All the rest had black leather." Source: Andy Graham via a follow up email communicating about the certificate.

Cheers,
-Darryl

Thanks for contributing!

I will make a Cup Car table soon when I get a little time to find where I saw other info about them (I think I saw the Chrome Orange production numbers for the 2007 Cup Car?).

As for the interiors portion, much of the info I have come across for colors is not as complete with interior info like you provided with your screenshot of the bottom half of the letter. Many people just say "Mine says 35 Polar Blue Elise in 2006". In the interest of keeping the spreadsheet easy to read and realistically what info can be collected, I don't think an "Interiors" tab would be possible.

Side note for anyone hoping to contribute too, this is the perfect format. A screenshot like above for the letter is ideal so we can see the whole context.

Legend has it that there were 2 white 2005's, BUT in 2005 it was not an official Lotus color. Rather a couple of well heeled customers paid extra to have them painted white at the factory. As I recall one of them surface on here several years ago.

Owned, loved, enjoyed, and now gone:
1969 Europa S2 Blue
1970 Europa S2 White
1974 Europa Twin Cam Blue
1974 Europa Twin Cam Blue
1984 Turbo Esprit Calypso Red
2005 Elise Starlight Black
2005 Elise Saffron Yellow
2005 Elise Ardent Red
2006 Exige Graphite Grey
2007 Exige Canyon Red

While that would make sense why my 2005 count is short by 2 with all colors accounted for, I don't believe that is the case. On a recent 05 certificate (showing 3323 total instead of 3321) it lists the three rarest colors as Aubergine Purple with 29, Aztec Bronze with 12, and black with 2. (See here: https://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f259...ml#post4577290)

If the two Andy said were "black" as the rarest color in the above linked certificate actually were white, that could make sense as "black" wasn't an official Lotus color and could have just been used as a default color for custom color orders.

I would be very interested to see a link to where it surfaced if you could find it? (I'll look too.)

As requested, here is the pertinent information from my CoP. Notice it says the first two cars were used for engineering. I wonder if that is the difference between 3321 and 3323?

Unfortunately a previous owner swapped out the red interior for black. On the up side the car ended up with 2006 or later Probax seats.

The Elise was launched into the US market at the start of the 2005 model year, with the first 2
cars being used for engineering. The following is based on serial number sequence and data
available to date for the USA market 2005 model year Elise only, of which there were 3323 cars
in total;
Your car is the 188th out of 202 cars in Racing Green met,
Your car is the 14th out of 15 cars in Racing Green met with red leather trim,
Your car is the 9th out of 10 cars in Racing Green met with red leather and the same factory
options. If we include the distributor optional Star shield this reduces your car down to the 5th
out of 6 cars with exactly the same colours, trims and options listed above.
Racing Green met was the 8th most popular colour out of the 16 colours available.

The first two for engineering could be the difference, but guess its just speculation unless Andy Graham wants to shed some light on what made him change what he believed the totals to be.

Thanks for adding in the details Ted! I look forward to more people sharing to fill the holes that are left.

Sure, here you go...this one actually more recent than the one I recalled. This car was actually for sale here as recently as this past October. Note that original owner said there were 4 2005 white cars.

BTW...while Andy is diligent and offers a great service to the Lotus community where the COP's are concerned, the fact is Lotus has never been equally diligent on maintaining accurate production records. For someone willing to write a big enough check, Lotus has always been willing to do some one-off things while a car is on the production line, be it color, interior appointments, etc. Those custom orders don't show up in the standard production numbers, as shown by the 2005 white Elises.

I see that what I believe is the single Candy Apple Red (an Exige, painted at factory) car does not seem to appear on any of your lists. Again, it's been here years ago...actually looks pink.

I agree with your statements about the Lotus records for production, not a priority and not always accurate (as evident by changing production totals for 2005 and 2006 over time).

I'd love to see where the Aspen White 2005's previous owner got the number 4, credible back up is what I'm looking for when I add numbers in as to avoid debates (which I know will be inevitable).

As for the Candy Red, I have it listed for a 2009 color in the Google Doc I made (check out this link in the first post), but did not add a production number to it because I don't have a credible backup for claiming only 1 was made. The Google Doc as way more info than I wanted to type into the "summary posts" for each year above.

I'd like to see all the numbers you have for the Cup cars. The following info is what I have.

2006 - 13 cup cars made, 3 were orange, and 4 were yellow, which leaves 6 colors unaccounted for. I know none were made in br green, laser blue, or storm titanium.
2007 - 30 cup cars made, 1 krypton green, and 8 white, which leaves 21 colors unaccounted for. I know none were made laser blue, and none were graphite gray.

Even when this table is complete it'll really be just a generalization, as Lotus is a bit weird about what they call a "cup car", and they're all over the map with regards to options, and hp. I think also that there were some 240 cars made alongside some 260 cars, and 255's as well.

Thanks for the info! I had a little progress when first asked about Cup cars, but life got busy and I moved across the country. I work on getting a bit more together and adding it soon when I get some time.

Forgot to add that Jack's 2007 Cup 255 was Storm Titanium, car number 001.
